Thread: Jekyll/Hyde half’s still keyed the outcome

  1. UL Basketball Jekyll/Hyde half’s still keyed the outcome

GSU started the game on fire, no gimmies. At one point Boyd COPELAND was 1 of 6 from the free throw line. If I recall, at one point the Panthers were 3 of 11, the team was abysmal from the charity stripe, it didn't matter though they were shooting over 70% from the field. And over 85% from 3-point land.

    GSU 1st Half FG %
    Total 72.7%
    3-Pt. 85.7%
    FreeT 40.0%

The second half was just the opposite, the Ragin’ Cajuns really shut down the shooting prowess of Georgia State, it didn't matter, GSU shot almost 80% from the Free Throw line, hitting 15 of their last 16. As bad as GSU had started the game from gimmie land, not one of the players finished under 50% from the charity stripe.

    GSU 2nd Half FG%
    Total 46.7%
    3-Pt. 20.0%
    FreeT 78.8%

What to do? The Cajuns defense in the 2nd half was like a 2nd skin for GSU players. The difference was you can’t defend them at the charity stripe and the Panthers made their gimmies.

I must say my confidence has been SHAKEN. After the Rice game I felt that our defense was the strong point of this team, but we go to GA and don't put our best foot forward. Personally, I believe the guys read their press clippings and took the Panthers lightly. Hopefully, this will make them realize their are really no gimmes on the schedule. I do think they have the makings of a very good team. Now they have to prove it!!

You may be right. Soft (lazy?) defense in the first half gave GSU an opportunity to get a nice cushion; but it seems that once the cajuns decided to play a little "in your face" defense the game began to swing. Now they need to realize that the type effort they gave in the 2nd half is what is needed throughout to beat good teams.

Guys don't panic. This was purely a case of overlooking GSU for Charlotte. Not condoning it, just food for thought.

Ragin' Cajuns I'm kinda concerned myself.....

I have to agree with "CajunCharlie".....These guys have something to prove. At one point in the game against Rice...I said to myself, Damn...this team appears to be the best that I have witnessed in person. But after being tortured to listen to the lack luster play in the GSU game, I began to have doubts! I was down right "____ed off!"

However, I have to concur with "airbill." After a moment of reflextion...I have come to the conclusion that these guys just have to learn what it means to be a "Champion!" Every play counts...every game counts! They have to develop a relentless desire to be unmatched by those who oppose them! This is an attitude that has to come from the Coach. After watching Coach Lee on the sidelines...I think he is capable of delivering this type of message to his players.

To conclude, I think we are headed in the right direction...it's just gonna take some time, and hopefully in the future...we will not overlook any team, no matter what their name is or where we play!

    Go Cajuns!

i don't understand. how can one look past a team toward a meeting with a team that has the dreaded 'city limited' in it's name?? uncCHARLOTTE?? now that's the kind of team you look past for the next, possibly 'prestigious sounding,' school on the schedule!

They want to be known as CHARLOTTE. If there wasn't already a university named Lafayette, it might not be an issue here either.
