Thread: Recruiting, how you can help

Default Recruiting, how you can help

I got a pretty good track record of helping kids get onto rosters at the D1 level. Have had several folks ask me whats the secret. Really, its not that hard. Me personally, I have a few things I require to help a kid, and its nothing to do with money. I havent accepted one dime from a parent or kid and would be offended if they offered. lol I do except the kid to be a good student and to have not been in any trouble at the school. That makes the rest easy.

    1. If you can afford it, get the kid to every camp you can. Coaches offer a ton at camps.

    2. Make sure the kid is a telephone warrior. They cant be bashful. Have them ask coaches for their numbers and call them at least once a week. I could tell Larry Pettis today you need to call Slippery Rock and he wouldnt hesitate or ask why. Its the kids future, make him take a part in it.

    3. Dont settle for talking to Mary Lou in the football office. You dont wanna talk to a secretary or the head of football operations. You wanna talk to a coach. Keep calling until you get one.

    4. Take the kid to games on Saturdays. Every school in the country will give a kid, even if its a kid that has to walk on, tickets to games for free. Call the football office and tell them your kid wants to come to a game. While there, talk to every coach you see. Make sure they know who you are and that your interested.

    5. Find out who the recruiting coach is in your area. I dont care if he is the DB coach and your kid is a punter, he needs to be your kids best friend. Call him often. Coaches can call kids alot, but your kid needs to call alot too. During dead periods, coaches cant call. But your kid can call them. Make them.

    6. These guys are coaches, plain and simple. Its not their future, its your kids future. I dont care if I am bugging them, they are gonna hear from me.

I know that sounds simple, but I am 4 for 4 this year following this formula.

4 FOR 4, would I conclude from that statement that you are counting Guy Billups in your 4? If so, lets hope that UL has 3 of the 4.

Young people that take ownership of their future are bound to work harder and succeed at everything in life. You are doing these young men an invaluable service. There are numerous athletes that fall through the cracks because they don't have "the machine" behind them. Most kids produce video of their highschool exploits (some have very little video however to make use of)... which is a necessity... but attending camps and making personal contact with coaches is the key. This all plays into the "star system" issue... which should improve a little in time... but you ask any coach, he will tell you that kids with personal responsibility outperform "pure athletes" and contribute more to a team. It's true in all walks of life.

Being recruited to play college football is extremely confusing and a difficult process if you don't know where to go and what to do. There are a few books out there and plenty of people ready for you to pay them to get junior a spot.

    Good advise especially #2.

and for the record, I have ZERO respect for a person asking a parent to give him money to help a kid. People like Kenny Rogers who help Scam Newton are the lowest form of human being in my book. These are kids wanting to live a dream. Dreams should be provided by an adult, not exploited by an adult

Who offered your son and did you get involved in the decision??? Could you tell what swayed him with one school over another ?? Was he waiting for other offers?? Feel free not to answer but I think a lot of us would be curios!!!!
