I know this could probably never pass, but I'll say it anyway. I think La State should be merged into the University of Alabama. The Baton Rouge campus would stay open, of course, as... The University of Alabama AT Baton Rouge.

And can somebody tell me exactly how much money this propsed merger will save??? I will give you a hint - PEANUTS ... UNO and SUNO are the two smallest budgets in the State as it is and have been kicked in the teeth by the State for the last 5 years...

On top of that SUNO gets federal money because it is a HBCU AND both schools have millions of dollars in open cases with FEMA. You think that FEMA will pay once one school ceases to exist? LOL

This is just Bobby playing politics.

    1) I got a call last night, the Southern alums are screaming even though the admin was OK with it. The Black Caucus will fight the merger.

    2) Historically, UNO has had better per capita funding than UL.

    3) What will Bobby get out of this if he can't deliver, and it blows up in his face?

LSU's Lombardi doesn't like the merger... he also criticizes the flagship coalition.

If the article doesn't appear there, just check the front page. We're having some problem with rollover. http://ultoday.com

Wow. He really is all over the map isn't he?

I think the biggest stumbling block to the whole thing is that the merger will probably need legislative approval. I think that's going to be tough and you know the N.O. based legislators and the black caucus will fight it hard.

Still, a step in the right direction, IMHO.

Of course it will need legislative approval!!! Remember the judge's decision after our name change in 1984? If changing the name of an existing university is considered "creating" a university and that is reserved for the legislature then merging two or more surely is creating a new university. Of course this is the state of Louisiana so logic doesn't necessarily have to prevail.

Yeah but . . . killing two, to create one, trumps the need for Legislative Approval right?

ps A coincidence between "LA" and "Legislative Approval" . . . I think not.
