Exactly. I think that the coaches want Billups but people need to realize that we have 6 QB's on the roster right now with 5 of them on scholarship. Next year is a different story as we lose 2 seniors and Gautier would be a senior. This year's class is in serious need of CB, DL and OL help. I don't know if people realize that we have 4 scholarship CB's on the roster right now and two are seniors. That is a position that we need to bring in at least 3 CB's in this class, if not 4. We need DL help as we lose at least 2 starters on the DL for this upcoming year and we lose 3 DE's that will play a lot by at one time. QB is not a position of direct need at this point.

Bottom line is that this staff will be held accountable by everyone on this board and others to win and make the right decisions. If the coaches believe that Billups is the man to bring in from the high school ranks, I'm fine with that as I trust their judgement. If they don't, people need to stop reacting and making decisions with their heart and trust that the coaches made the right decision. Every year, every program makes decisions that they would do differently if given a second chance. That is the nature of recruiting and that's why lots of evaluation and time is needed to make those decisions. This staff has not been given that time to make those decisions so I would suggest some objectivity in the fan's assessment of their performance.
I agree with what you say. I'm just pointing out that there are a couple of qb's on this roster that will NEVER see the field. If Billiups is a guy they want and he just wants to be wanted and he'll walk-on, I say cut ties with one of our 6 qbs and make him a spot

Without offending anyone, how does anyone know he is or will be better than the QB's we have on our team? The word on Brady Thomas was almost identical to that of Billups coming out of HS as well. Rocket arm, good QB intelligence and can move when he needs to. He's also a solid contributor to the team overall and he's maintained his walk-on status for several years now. That would leave Hollingsworth. None of us have seen him play so I'm not in a position to say whether he should be relieved of his scholarship for Billups. Bottomline is that if Billups wants to be here, he will be welcome. If he's willing to walk-on, he will almost surely be given a scholarship for the next season when we have 2 come available at the position.

I have no dog in this hunt, but I would look for QB's that can get out of the pocket and make plays out of nothing. With the OL he have now I'm not sure a pocket passer can thrive (I have no idea if Billups is a pocket passer or not).
I have said this many times, but our QB's have less time to throw the ball than most D1A teams. Unless we somehow become proficient at the OL postion we will be well served to have a QB that can make things happen with both his arm and feet.

Yes, Montrell Carter is number on our board at the Ath/Slot/KR position. We already have Peoples and Price is not playing RB at UL.

Don't wanna call anyone out, but if the coaches are truly high on him and billups wants to be shown we want him and he'll walk-on, there's a couple of qbs to choose from that could be told thanks for your services, good luck in the future.....

Duggie85, Corey Leonard played at Convington High. He was one hell of a pitcher in HS, his fastball was clocked as high as 93 mph. Robichaux loved the kid, but he wanted to play QB in college. The Cajuns offered him at safety, they missed on him.

Brady's problem was he only started his senior year after the starter was hurt. He never started at the varsity level prior to that season and he didn't start but a hand full of games when the starter went down.

Guy Billups has way more games under his belt as a starter and at the 5A level. Of course he was all state this past season as well. I think you are correct in that they have similar stature or body types.

IMO, I just think that this is a position that we need to trim the loose fat for the future of this program. Easy decision? Hell no. This just happens to be a vital position where an upperclassman is just treading water and a freshman with more credentials is willing to come on his own dime, perform the same duties, but has a brighter future. Will this freshman pan out? Maybe not. If he doesn't, UL doesn't lose anything IMO. If he does,....

I could be wrong though. I'm just an armchair coach.

I've been following the Guy B. saga like everyone else. I've watched his videos and read his interviews. I want him to be a part of UL as much as everyone else, but what you are suggesting, taking another player's scholarship to make room for Guy, goes against everything I believe in. This is not the pros. We have made a promise to every single one of the kids we have ever offered a scholarship too. If asked to choose between losing games or losing our integrity, I'll choose games every time.

I want Guy to be a Cajun, but not at the expense of another student athlete.

They didn't miss, we had Mike D. No way Leonard would have started over Mike
