Cajuns storm past 'Wolves
ANCHORAGE (Nov. 23) – The Seawolf women’s basketball team stayed with Division I Louisiana-Lafayette for the first 15 minutes, but the Ragin’ Cajuns ended the first half with a 14-4 run and went on to score an 88-48 victory over UAA in the first game of the 2004 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.
Guard Ashley Blanche was the Player of the Game with 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting, six assists and four rebounds. Senior center Taylor Long led the Seawolves (1-1) with 14 points.
UAA, which also got 12 points from guard Stephanie Beason, jumped out to an early lead and used a 6-0 run to tie it at 21-21 with 5 minutes to go in the first half. But Louisiana-Lafayette (3-0) tightened up its defense and took control from there.
Cajuns center Anna Petrakova, the reining Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while teammate Melissa Bratton came off the bench to score 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
The Cajuns will meet the winner of the late semifinal between Stanford and Eastern Washington for the Shootout title at 5 p.m. Wednesday. UAA will take on the loser of that game for third place at 2:30 p.m.
What time locally will the game be?
