LOUISIANA La. — Anna Petrakova has been on enough road trips with Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns to have her priorities in order.
No. 1 on the list, right up there with scoring and rebounding, is a pillow.
“Always bring a pillow,” said Petrakova, who left Wednesday night with her Cajun teammates for one of the longest extended road trips in school history.
“Make yourself comfortable, no matter where you are,” she added. “I try to view it as a day off. Try to sleep on the plane as much as you can.”
That’s good advice for the next two weeks.
UL will face UC Davis on Friday in the first round of the Radisson Inn Classic in Colorado Springs, and will follow that with either Montana State or Air Force on Saturday.
Then it’s off to the Land of the Midnight Sun as the Cajuns play next Tuesday and Wednesday in the Great Alaska Shootout. UL meets defending Shootout champion Alaska-Anchorage, then either Eastern Washington or Stanford the next day.
By the time they get back for six home games in December, the Cajuns will have covered 9,355 miles. That’s plenty for a team that has six freshmen on it, and a senior like Petrakova can provide insight on how to survive.
