Thread: University of Louisiana Men's Basketball Reunion

  1. Default UL greats return

Jim Hatfield made the trip from Panama City, Fla., to Lafayette for UL's Basketball Reunion this weekend for one reason.

Of all his coaching stops, Hatfield liked coaching the Ragin' Cajuns more than anywhere else. Hatfield helped then-USL rebuild after a two-year death penalty handed down by the NCAA, going 47-35 from 1975-78 before leaving to take over Mississippi State's program.

    The rest of the story

Being there last night was a great thrill. For me. I went to support UL and to support Shipley, Cox & the Winkler-Lamar era players, the teams that I had such a close relationship with in school, and at the games.

But seeing Gomez & Cox again, trading stories with Tom became interesting. meetin Parrott & Jay Walker finally. Seeing PT, Hank, meetting players from before and after my time at U(S)L.....so sweet.

If you are not at the game tonight, you should be shot, never mind, just finding out what you missed tomorrow will be punishment enough.

This is depressing, I love history.

I miss something like this more than I miss being on the sidelines for a game.

Well I need all my RP friends on here to go to the game and be loud and proud. I unfortunately am working in the gulf. Geaux Cajuns

Turb, why is this depressing. Although times are different today, these great memories are some of the reasons why we still have the potential to be the TOP mid major in the south. It is a reason for encouragement about the future. We need to pass on these stories of the reunion weekend to potential recruits. Now, if you are depressed about being 4 and 14 when we have such a rich tradition, that I understand.

My partner and I will be there with our 3 kids. Let's dominate the dome!

We need to be so loud that when Coach Hud introduces the recruits they will hollar their verbal commitment right there in the dome.

I wish I could make it, but tonight is my aunt & uncles 50th wedding anniversary party. I always enjoy these type of games the most since I grew up watching USL basketball.
