As a former Michigander, I find your comment amusing if nothing else. Miles was never offered the job so how can you say the AD settled. Yeah Harbaug was a wanted man but look at those courting him; Michigan and a slew of NFL teams. Your acting like he snub the wolverines for Georgia or some other almighty SEC team.

The facts are this, in three years of Rich Rod (plus the few year before) Michigan still averaged over a hundred thousand. You find a comparable stretch and tell me what BR A&M average. I know what I saw when I was a "guest" there, and it wasn't a pretty sight.

The Michigan program is still strong. It was built on tradition and class. It has and will out live so called name coaches. The next question is; Will LSU's? We'll just have to wait and see.

this was the exception; with that gorgeous cinematography, the theater was the place to see it.

as to the numbers---i have no idea.

joe, i actually like michigan; have pulled for them against ohio st. since i have memory, and have always supported them in any rose bowl game. i think the helmets won me over as a small boy.

i agree it is a strong program, despite the recent slump. but there is no way hoke was their man--they settled. maybe it will work out for them, and i hope it does.

and when did the thread become about attendance?

It's indicative of how strong the program is. It show the loyalty of the fan base despite having a major bcs program and an NFL team in its neighborhood.

110K loyal fan versus 35k die-hard and 55K band-wagoners, which would you consider better job. All Miles does is wins and the band-wagoners are ready to sack him and dump him in the Mississippi river.

In Ann Arbor, if you win and win with class you are set. Ask Bo, Gary or Lloyd about the importance of winning the right way. Don't ask Rich because he wasn't a Michigan man and he wasn't doing it the right way.

Your saying the AD settle because Harbaug and Miles is a bigger name. Yes, I wanted Harbaug (became a huge bears fan because of him), but if things don't work for him with the niners you can bet the house his first want would be at U-M not at a rival like THE Ohio State.

Hoke has the support of former players and the big money alumn and that is why he was offered and Miles wasn't. And I'm Glad because I don't want the SEC element in Ann Arbor.

Michigan got themselves into a pidgeon hole by stating they wanted a Michigan man. That leaves Harbaugh, Miles, and Hoke. Trust me if they wanted...they could have had any number of people. Look at Tony Dungy, super bowl winning head coach in the NFL, said he is glad Michigan didn't offer because he would have to think long and hard about it. Miles is in a good position at LSU. Compensation is good, recruiting is good due to oversigning and monopoly in Louisiana, and just like I said, Miles would take the path of least resistance, because thats the person he is. Harbaugh, who knew he would blow up like that? People like to look at it and say Michigan has fallen off. Far from it. Realize that after LSU won the Cotton Bowl, finished in the top 10 again, LSU was only in the national news because of the Michigan coaching search. Hell Patrick Peterson going pro was a small blip and then it was back to, will Les go to Michigan. Michigan will get back to prominence. They have to much money behind them to fail.

Agree with almost everything your saying Hawk. I just find it amusing when saying Michigan has settled. The Michigan Job became available because of Rich Rod not because Jim H. "might" be available. Tradition and integrity are very important in Ann Arbor which is something Rich Rod did not grasp.

He took the #1 jersey away from best WR (tradition) and he brought the NCAA around to monitor practice time (integrity). You do this in the SEC and you get a slap on the wrist (ie. Cam Newton and Bruce Pearl-Tenn). At Michigan you get fired (ie. Rich Rod and Steve Fisher-Fab five). You can say apple to orange or what not but bottom line coaches got fired.

Been a Michigan fan since the 1987 Rose Bowl. Though I graduated at UL, I always have had a soft spot for the Maize and Blue. It's been a rough couple of years but College Football is cyclical. Their time will come again. Sooner rather than later.
