Bill Crist sent me this email in response...

    David,

I appreciate your concerns about the Walk of Honor. We have a contractor
scheduled to take care of the repairs, but unfortunately he has run into
several delays due to health and construction / weather problems. We spoke
to him most recently on Friday and he has promised to start this project
    very soon.

The walk damage was caused by several incidents, mostly the construction at
FG Mouton and our grounds equipment breaking the edges of the pavers. The
university just completed a contract to install concrete edging along the
entire length of the WoH at a cost of $56,000. We held the paver contractor
back until that work was completed, but he is now planning to work on
repairing the existing pavers and installing the newest three years of
    graduates.

    Bill Crist

I had a very different experience...when KP was being recruited at UL the area in question looked fine. There were no weeds, the lawn was freshly mowed and looked fine to me. Perhaps I did not notice the broken bricks or wasn't shown a particular area. It did impress me that UL honored their graduates in such a fashion and I am glad they are putting the last 3 years grads on the path. Everything isn't always doom and gloom. I think that is something you should be proud of. Sounds like all necessary repairs are proceeding.

Woohoo! I finally will be able to see my own brick. I'm tired of seeing my whole family's bricks and not mine.

    CajunZ1,
Congrats on your letter. Now that you are on a roll please send a note to Farmer and demand pressure washing of the stadium Also, while you are at it please write ESPN to make sure they refer to us as Louisiana.

    Thanks,
    Never Satisfied Cajun Fan

BTW, don't think I didn't notice your vigilance on this issue coincided with your graduation!

Reading about history is one thing, becoming part of it is a whole other feeling...

From Mr. Crist's note to you it appears the admin was already on top of it.

I will say thanks for posting about a problem AND going the extra mile to get what amouts to "the rest of the story".

    I'm nothing if not self-serving!

People in charge should have known that the project would require a solid foundation to lay the bricks as well as regular maintenance. It seems as though the bricks were just super-glued over the old concrete. I would rather it not be there at all than for it to be in the condition it has been in for so long.
Hopefully my 1977 brick hangs in there long enough for me to see it!

I think the projects are fine, it's just building projects that can't be easily and cheaply maintained because you know this is going to happen.

That's my #1 gripe about Cajun Field. Over the years people painted concrete, put up flagpoles, and do other things that I didn't think previously needed maintenance. Then something needs to be done to freshen these things up and things look pretty seedy for a while.
