LOUISIANA La. — Today’s 7 p.m. basketball exhibition against Arkansas Tech at the Cajundome feels like it took forever to get here for Louisiana coach Robert Lee.
“It’s good to finally get started,” said Lee, who was named the Ragin’ Cajuns’ head coach last summer after serving 9 years as an assistant with the program.
“With any game, I’m not so much nervous, but concerned. I’m just anxious. You always think you’re prepared, but you know in this business it comes down to wins and losses.”
The Cajuns finished 20-9 last season, winning the Sun Belt Conference and advancing to NCAA Tournament regional action.
Now, in his first year as the squad’s leader, Lee has a pre-Sun Belt schedule that includes preseason No. 1 Kansas, Rice, Georgia State, Charlotte and the same North Carolina State team that beat the Cajuns 61-52 in NCAA play.
They also meet Louisiana Tech and either LSU or Tulane next weekend in Baton Rouge.
“It’s a tremendous challenge for us,” Lee said. “I have no idea what coach scheduled that. I’ll have to talk to that guy.”
