LOUISIANA La. — Finishing in the Top 10 in the nation and playing in the Women’s College World Series tends to get your program noticed.

That’s the situation for the Louisiana Lady Cajun softball program, which reached the WCWS and placed in the Top 10 to finish the 2003 season and came within one game of returning last spring with a 60-8 record.

Hanson Memorial standout Brittany Hilton was impressed enough to make an easy choice when it came time to further her softball career.

The all-district pitcher will sign with the Cajuns today to jump-start her senior year.

“This summer I played for a team in New Iberia, and we played at UL,” Hilton said. “Coach Mike Lotief was there, and he started calling me from July 1st. Then it came time to take my visits, and once I visited UL I said that’s it.

“I knew they were a program that was in the Top 10 and had been to the World Series. It’s a real honor to be considered by their program.”
