Saunders plans to arrive in Lafayette next week. He will be ready to get to work. "The position with coach Nutt at Ole Miss was fantastic, and I would have stayed there if not for the exciting opportunity to join coach Hudspeth at the University of ...

Great Coach, Outstanding Recruiter, and a really good guy. Never understood why houston didnt have him coaching. Guess he wasnt in the "people Heppin business" like Houston was.
John--the problem wasn't with Houston, it was with Ole Miss AD Pete Boone. I will admit this, though: MSU is currently taking steps in the right direction, while Ole Miss is not. I feel like Nutt rested on his laurels last year, and the abortion of a season we witnessed was the result. There is no reason for State to come in and dominate us at home like they did (for the second year in a row). You may disagree, but I believe that Ole Miss had more talent than State last year--but you guys were better coached, better prepared, and more motivated. Kudos to you.
That being said, I wouldn't throw too many stones at Ole Miss for being in the people heppin' business. If memory serves me right, MSU is the school that nearly sent scholarship papers to jail (but after publicity decided to wait until he was released), and wasn't it two Bulldogs who were fighting in the stands at the Hawaii tournament last week? If you think that MSU or any other school in the country isn't just as guilty as Ole Miss in this department, you're living in fantasy land.
But as far as the Cajuns are concerned, I can't reiterate enough how huge this hire is for them. David has a reputation as a great guy and is well respected as a person in and around Oxford and Mississippi. He is a knowledgeable and successful on the field coach, but his real talent is with recruiting. He is not only a good evaluator of talent, but his is a whiz at navigating the issues surrounding eligibility. I think we're going to see him come in and start pulling kids that are iffy about getting into LSU, but are huge talents. He'll work with them and get them cleared. Make no mistake, this is a huge loss for Ole Miss, but it's the Cajuns' gain.
Every team has their bad apples, even us, i fully adnit that. FYI, if you honestly believe anything that comes out of Yancy Porter's mouth your nutts. Yancy says all the crap he says to sell subscriptions, period. he has lied about Deshaun 10 times this year and never once called him. the only person who has from Scout is CajunT and i thank him for that. Talent wise, in skill positions, you had as much maybe more. problem was Houston spent his first years there recruiting 38 "wiiiiilllllllddddd rebels" and and no time recruiting anyone to block for them. He won cause he had The Ogres recruits. Also coaching wise there is no comparison. Our staff is alot better. Houston is on borrowed time. He said himself he didnt realize how important the Egg Bowl was in Mississippi. If he dont win it next year..........
But i agree with you 100% about this hire for UL. He will recruit his butt off and will get most of the kids he goes after. great great hire.
Lets just agree that we are Cajuns and keep our other dirty laundry out of it. lol
1. I didn't say Bowman signed the papers from jail. I said he was set to, but didn't once State caught bad publicity on it. Here's an article to refresh your memory:
http://www.mssports.org/index.php/Do...SU-Bowman.html
To quote, "It's unclear when and where Bowman, who gave a non-binding, oral commitment to MSU coaches last Thursday, would sign his letter of intent. Today is the first day junior college players can sign binding scholarship papers.
'He may just sign it in the jail right now, I don't know,' Bowman's attorney, Joe Fernald, said. 'He doesn't have to be anywhere (specific) to sign it.'"
2. I make it a habit to not read anything Yancey writes. The guy is a joke, but I give him, Rosebowl and all of them credit: they make a lot of money doing nothing but creating controversy and hype where there is none. They aren't journalists, though, and I don't pretend that they are. I have no doubt that he's lied about Deshaun, either.
3. Orgeron did a good job at recruiting the D-line, but left holes in other spots. The biggest problem was attrition and depth problems he left. Because of these issues, I don't buy into the "Orgeron Recruiting Hype" that many do, however I can't deny that he did leave enough talent for Nutt to win off the bat.
4. I agree that coaching wise, there is no comparison b/t the two staffs right now. I was really hoping Florida would hire Mullen away and I'm not ashamed to admit it. For various reasons--shallow talent pool when compared to other states, financial issues, more competition for in-state players (from Ole Miss, MSU, So. Miss, LSU, Bama and Auburn), and academic issues that plague Mississippi high schools, I don't think you'll ever see both Ole Miss and MSU be powers at the same time, and I don't know if you'll ever see one of them become a top tier SEC power. The cards are too stacked against them.
5. I agree about him over recruiting the "Wild Rebel" position and not enough of other spots. A bigger issue I have right now is that we have no offensive identity. We have Mackey, a spread type QB, and Stanely, a drop back passer. Then we bring in two more Jucos or transfers, one a spread guy and one a drop back guy. It's too hard for an OL to try and do both. Plus, we now have 4 Jrs. on scholarship for next year. That's a recipe for disaster in my opinion.
6. The last time State beat Ole Miss 3 times in a row, it was like WWI or something. If it happens again next year (and it very well could), I'll drive to Oxford myself and start packing Nutt's boxes.
7. I enjoy this conversation, but I'm sure the Cajuns fans on here don't feel like reading smack between fans of two MS teams. I'll try to keep from taking shots at MSU if you can keep from taking shots at Ole Miss...deal?
yeah we can pm each other. lol
please, don't stop. I am enjoying the insight
I fully admit, I want OM to do good. You cant follow these kids in recruiting and not develop a bond with them and feel like they are yours. I do have ALOT more insight to the Jesse Bowman thing but i aint gonna throw an athlete under the bus, just not my style. There is alot more to the way that story ended than alot of folks know. Like I said, every school has their bad apples.
The thing I like about this hire and the hire of Reed Stringer is their connections in Mississippi. There are alot of kids in Mississippi that get overlooked each year and they wont be by UL anymore. I want you guys to remeber this name, you will know about him in the coming days, Eli Canton. Closest thing to Brian Erlacher i have seen in years
Yeah but out of respect and friendship for CajunT, i am gonna let him give you all the details when the time comes. But this kid is amazing. And attainable
