I'll say this much, it seems like even Hud's "Plan B" recruiting is better than Bustle's "Plan A."

Couple of things here....This should have nothing to do with Bustle, I don't understand why people continue to bring his name up about Hud vs Buslte, we should just be happy that we have Hud right now.

What we have learned is that Hud might be better in recruiting than Bustle, but remember Hud is taking more chances than Bustle did. Ricky signed the number we needed and for the most part he signed only players that were eligible now. That being said remember some of the athletes that Bustle signed while here that were extremely successful, none of Hud's players have taken the field yet, so we don't know what they will be, we can hope, but we don't know.

Hud is going to oversign--something Bustle would not do
Hud is going to sign a few non qualifiers--something Bustle rairly did
Hud is going to Greyshirt a few players--something Bustle rairly did

I am not saying Hud is better than Bustle or the other way around, I do know this, their approaches are different. But also remember Bustle had to build a program from the foundation up, Hud is taking over a program that has a much stronger foundation than Bustle had, so he can take a few more chances. But why everyone is comparing is ridiculous and unnesecary, just be happy with the success in recruiting we are having and hope it reflects both on the field and in the classroom.

I don't see why you find it hard to believe that people would compare the brand new coach to the last coach. We compared Bustle to Baldwin, we're going to compare Hudspeth to Bustle, and we're going to compare the next guy to Hudspeth. It may not be fair but that's how things work, gotta just get over it.

Not my point, comparing is fine....But blasting Bustle about his recruiting is unfair. Bustle did a good job, not great, good. I thank Ricky for all he did here and got us to this point. If we win 8 games next season, than I am okay with comparing 2011 vs 2010, but why compare something that is not an exact sience as recruiting before anything comes of it. When the next 4 years are over, we could be saying what a miserable recruiting class. You guys are comparing kids that gave there heart and souls, to kids that have never played a down of football. you are comparing a coach that has never coached one play vs a guy that gave his heart and soul for nearly a decade.

i am going to hold judgement till these kids and coach gets on the field.

that being said, I really like what Coach Hud has done so far.

    quick comparison..

when rickey had hired his coaches, said okay let's go recruit.. only to find out when they walked outside, there wasn't a car there for any coaches to even drive..

coach hudspeth as we can recall, called nbc from alabama, having just arrived via airplane..

Well of course people are going to be irrational about it, but you're right. This class is good on paper and we'll have to see how it turns out, but that's not how the recruiting hype works.

Most people here at least appreciate what Bustle did for us, taking us out of Oblivion. We all know he's a good guy and everyone wishes him well.

Exactly my point. If it not for how far we had come with Ricky at the helm, we could not even discuss what Coach Hud has done, because bottom line he would not be here. The times are different. We have a different Prez, we have a different Athletic Director, etc. As are the approaches by the coaches, but the approaches could not be different if everyting else was not different.

I am hoping everyting works out, but I am cautiously optomistic until I see the results on the field.

I would certainly agree with you. I have been approaching this very cautiously as people are really getting excited about the class put together so far with none of these kids having hit the field yet with the exception of Broadway. I, too will refrain from any judgments until I've seen them in action. However, there are a couple of things I've noticed. First, Hud has taken a different approach to defense. Obviously, we will be running a different defense but we are also bringing in different types of athletes. For the most part, Bustle took quite a few defensive backs and moved them to LB and linebackers and moved them to DE. Hud is going after the bigger and faster LB's and keeping them there which is what I want to see. We need size and athleticism at that position and he seems to be bringing guys in to fit that mold. It's hard to argue that Tovell, Trae Johnson and possibly a Darzil Washington will be more ready to play the day fall begins rather than some of our guys in the past who needed redshirt years because they were too small.

Second, he's bringing in higher profile guys and guys who would not have come here and would have gone to larger schools. Jamal Robinson, Qyen Griffen and Harris along with Pettis and McNeal are bigger receivers and backs that we got that will fit a glaring need. Redzone success due to throwing to larger receivers and bigger backs who can pound the ball up the interior. We will be a more physical team and I think that it shows with some of these recruits. None of us know how good they will truly be but on paper, this is a very promising and talented class so far.

Finally, if you read the comments by the recruits who have given us a verbal, all of them state that the coaching staff has made them feel needed and wanted and they feel that this staff is infusing something into this program that will make it succeed. His enthusiasm is clearly noted and Bustle was not this type of personality. Sometimes, kids just need to be persuaded and he seems to be able to do that more than Bustle.

Could not agree with you more on that statement above.

I guarantee this much---enthusiasm SELLS---Snowballs, mansions, votes, cow dung---It is a huge factor---and guess who has it?????? No doubt that RB brought this program a huge jump higher and now HUD takes advantage of that foundation---Who is not excited about this????
