Ley/Singh advance to finals of Flight A Doubles
LOUISIANA La. – Junior Amanjot Singh continued his stellar play here Saturday, advancing to the finals of the Hibernia Ragin’ Cajuns Tennis Classic at Cajun Courts.
Singh defeated Louisiana State’s Paul White in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the Flight A finals. Singh will face Texas-Arlington’s Sandy Farquharson, who defeated Louisiana State’s Kevin Dessauer 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the other semifinals match.
In consolation, Southeastern Louisiana’s Oliver Nussbaum defeated New Orleans’ Julie De La Mettrie in the Flight A consolation finals.
In Flight B singles, Arkansas-Little Rock’s Rain Roigas will face Texas-Arlington’s Josey Trimmien in the finals. Roigas defeated Louisiana State’s Johnathan in the quarterfinals and fellow UALR teammate Tim Walter 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals.
Trimmien defeated Lamar’s Dean Closer 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and UNO’s Saif Ali in the semifinals.
In Flight B consolation play, Texas-Arlington’s Felipe Acosta will face Southeastern Louisiana’s Paul Birkett in the finals. Acosta defeated Louisiana-Lafayette’s Dustin Musso 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Tulane’s Nigel Barton 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 in the semifinals.
Birkett defeated Louisiana’s Ryan Hess in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, and then knocked off Texas-Arlington’s Kyle Mims 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals.
Singh and Robin Ley will face UTA’s Farquharson and Neils Buksik in the Flight A doubles finals. Singh/Ley won their semifinals match against LSU’s Dessauer/White by default. Farquharson/Buksik knocked off Lamar’s Juan-Pablo Alatorre and Emilio Kirby 8-5 in the semifinals.
