Shouldn't that be T.U.L.N.O.?
I think Mr.Cajun and Bayou Teche are related!!
GEAUX UL!!!!!
THE University of Louisiana!!
Several of the Big 12 schools do that:
University of Oklahoma - OU
University of Colorado - CU
University of Kansas - KU
I mentioned this previously, but if we called ourselves the University of Louisiana - LU, that certainly circumvents any of the law that deals with univerisities using UL and the city tag.
On the other hand, it might be hard to change over from UL to LU. I'm not worried about schools like Lamar that use LU. There are too many schools that use OSU or UM or UT. The biggest thing is getting over the hurdle of UL Lafayette. Would LU be successful in doing that? Is that something to even consider?
Here are some more examples:
Fresno State - Cal State Fresno
Nevada - Nevada Reno
Charlotte - UNC Charlotte
Milwaukee - UW Milwaukee
California - Cal Berkeley
Texas - Texas at Austin
Nebraska - Nebraska Lincoln
Louisiana - Louisiana at Lafayette
The schools with city tags that have been successful, all have great acronyms:
UCLA - Cal Los Angeles
UNLV - Nevada Las Vegas
UTEP - Texas El Paso
UAB - Alabama Birmingham
ULM - Louisiana Monroe
I AM a chest pounding UL name-or-bust guy. This works for us as it does for these other schools. Why so much trouble embracing it, even by UL alumni? Why does the outside media have so much trouble accepting what we want to be called, like ESPN? Why do they so readily accept what other schools want to be called and I'm not just talking about the traditional power schools?
