  3. UL Football Kyries Hebert

Kyries Hebert would have cashed a $25,000 bonus cheque and collected more than $2,000 in training camp pay had he reported to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers three weeks ago.

Instead, he's at home in Texas collecting nothing while appealing his contract status with the CFL club.

The 25-year-old linebacker now wants to settle the situation as quickly as possible, preferably before the case goes to arbitration, because he's starting to feel the financial pinch.

"My agent, right now his family's eating. His income is coming in. Everything that he has to take care of, that's being taken care of," said Hebert earlier this week. "Now, me on the other hand, right now I'm not getting an opportunity to do the things that I need to do to provide for my family.

"The opportunity that I have, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I have on the table, that's being taken away from me right now."

That opportunity is with the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals, which is where Hebert claimed he would have signed had the Bombers not plucked him off waivers April 19.

In a desperate attempt to keep those NFL hopes alive, Hebert filed an appeal through the CFL Players' Association. An arbitrator has yet to hear the case.

Hebert signed a five-year contract in December with the Ottawa Renegades, who went belly up in early April. Hebert wasn't picked in the dispersal draft, but the Bombers claimed him off waivers just five minutes before he would have become a free agent.

Default Re: Preaux: Kyries Hebert feeling cash crunch during C.F.L. standoff

Them Canucks need to stick to playin hockey. Dumbarse Canadians need to stop tying up some of the real talent that could be making waves in the NFL. Obviously, I refer here to Kyries. Who the hell are those retards to decide 5-minutes before Kyries was to have a real career, one that mattered, to pluck him from success? Since they suck so bad and aren't successful and people couldn't care less about CFL, are they gonna make everyone else miserable as well?!? CFL is ____! anyhoo, now that my steam is let out, here's to wishing Kyries a change of luck.

    GEAUX UL RAGIN CAJUNS!!!!!
    GEAUX NFL!!!!!!!!
    GEAUX KYRIES!!!!!

I don't understand why someone in the CFL having his rights should prevent him from playing in the NFL. Afterall, the CFL isn't honoring the NFL's rights to and suspension of Ricky Williams. Why does it work one way but not the other?

  6. UL Football Re: Kyries Hebert signs

Sportsnet.ca -- Controversial linebacker Kyries Hebert is close to agreeing to a new contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and is expected to report the club in the next few days, reports Sportsnet's Football Insider, Eric Tillman. The modified deal, according to a source close to the situation, is expected to be for two years and an option.

The former Ottawa defender, who signed a high-priced, five-year contract extension with the Renegades after the 2005 season and was later charged with felony assault in Texas, was not taken in the April dispersal draft in spite of being viewed as one of the CFL's premier young players. He was then placed on waivers, per CFL bi-laws, and, after lengthy internal discussions, the Bombers decided to "claim" the 6-3, 215-pounder on the last day before the seven-day waiting period expired.

Hebert, who started at safety and linebacker in Ottawa, in addition to being one of the CFL's premier special teams performers, threatened to take legal action, claiming that he and all Renegades players had been informed in writing that they would be free agents if not selected in the dispersal draft. The league and Bombers general manager, Brendan Taman, countered that the waiver process is standard procedure for all players before being granted free agent status. As the dispute continued, Hebert refused to report to the Bombers training camp in May.

  7. Default Hebert agrees to deal with Bombers

Linebacker Kyries Hebert has decided not to take the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to arbitration to win his release from a five year contract He signed with the Ottawa Renegades last winter..

He has agreed to a two year deal that will allow him to try the NFL following the 2007 CFL season..

Hebert was claimed by waivers by the Bombers just days after the dispersal draft of Ottawa players. He took the Bombers to arbitration to win his freedom to sign with the Cincinatti Bengals..

But after the arbitration process stalled Hebert decided to work out a shorter deal with the Bombers..

STROKE OF GENIUS? While Taman's gamble on running back Onterrio Smith was a complete waste of time, he might have made one of the smartest moves in the CFL management ranks this winter by claiming former Ottawa Renegade linebacker Kyries Hebert on waivers.

After being ignored in the Ottawa dispersal draft - likely because teams were scared to touch him because of criminal charges in the U.S. - Taman rolled the dice.

Nearly two months later, Hebert's charges have been downgraded to misdemeanours and he's expected to arrive in Canada tonight.

If he passes his interview with Canadian government officials and is allowed to work in the country, the Bombers could improve almost overnight.

  9. Default Hebert saga has a life of its own

It's official, Kyries Hebert has passed Onterrio Smith as the most talked about player never to suit up with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

He's like the teenage boy's girlfriend that nobody has ever met. We think he exists, but how can we be sure?

The Hebert saga has featured twist after twist and seems no closer to an ending than it did three months ago.

After many moons of wrangling, the Bombers and Hebert's camp finally came to an agreement recently on a contract which will allow the player to take a shot at the NFL after a couple of seasons in Winnipeg.

The linebacker was holding out for a shorter deal -- something like zero years preferably -- after the Bombers plucked him off waivers from the now-defunct Ottawa Renegades.

  10. Default Hebert banned from Canada

Kyries Hebert has found the going tough in the Canadian Football League - literally.

The former University of Louisiana standout can't go ... can't cross the border ... can't report to Winnipeg to join the Blue Bombers team, with whom he signed a three-year deal two weeks ago.

Hebert was denied entry into Canada last Sunday and again on Monday after being charged with felony domestic abuse last January in Texas. Canadian immigration officials denied his entry into the country, based on what was termed "a risk to re-offend."

Both the Bombers and Hebert are appealing the decision, Hebert through his agent J. R. Rickert and the Winnipeg team through immigration lawyer Ken Zaifman.

While the legal matters are being addressed, the former Eunice High standout is waiting in a Grand Forks, N.D., hotel, just over two hours from Winnipeg.

"I can't say anything about anything that's going on," Hebert said. "I've been advised by the lawyers not to comment. I'm sorry."
