Conference Championships vs. Bowl Victories

Conference Championships mean way more. More tha half the teams last year lost money going to bowl games Last year, from the costs of travel, lodging, meals and tickets. Twelve schools had deficits of more than $100,000. For three, the shortfall exceeded $300,000.
I don't believe losing money is positive unless you can afford to lose money and don't really care. FIU will lose money going to Detroit and I am sure Tulsa will as well. Troy will be ok but not make huge profits. Vandy sits back and makes more than 75% of the bowl teams watching it at home.

Just responding to the guy's post about which is better. I would think most coaches would rather win a conference championship and have some hardware in the showcase. For recruiting this means way more to a recruit because the team proved to be the best during the season versus finishing second on 3rd in conference and going to a meaningless bowl game and beating another team on the same level and losing money as well. Cajuns would be better just winning the conference and head to New Orleans. Travel won't cost as much b/c bowl is close and tickets sales would be high. Unless you are one of the few teams that actually make a profit for their bowl appearance. Bowls are all about the money and advertising for the sponsor and local community hosting. The Sunbelt will not pay FIU that much money to head to Detroit to play in that bowl game. FIU will lose money for going play in their bowl game.

Coaches harp on conference championships. No I didn't realize bowl game you trophies, I thought they just shook your hand and said thanks for coming. I hope you are not recruiting for the Cajuns.

The question is have you ever been in a kids house being recruited? If you where, how long did it take the cops to get there and are you allowed within 300 feet of their house anymore?

Win or lose, a simple bowl appearance is worth more than a conference championship.

Opponents rarely mention UL's multiple conference championships from the 80's and 90's, but they are quick to point out the bowl drought since UL went to it's 2nd bowl in the early 70's.

Its the only reason it is brought up kind of like the losing streak Prairie View A M had in football. Everyone was pulling for them to to win. In today's times, if you win the conference you go bowling anyways.
