LOUISIANA La. — University of Louisiana's Lady Cajuns basketball program received their third commitment from a high school senior, when Cornerstone Christian’s center Ovigwerade Agbuke of San Antonio, Texas gave a verbal pledge.
Ovigwerade which means “I’m Blessed” has an imposing figure at 6-foot-5 215-pounds, which has drawn her comparisons to two of the top 50 players in NBA history.
“Ovigwerade is a David Robinson type of player, with the size of Shaq (O’Neal),” said her high school head coach Mike Alfaro. “She creates a lot of problems for opposing teams with her size on the defensive end, because she changes a lot of shots.”
Agbuke, who averaged 12 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks a game last year en route to leading Cornerstone Christian to the state semifinals of the Catholic League, chose the Ragin’ Cajuns over Alabama State, North Texas, Missouri and Texas State among others.
“It really came down to Lafayette and Alabama State,” Agbuke said. “But I heard that the food was terrible in Alabama and I would have had to stay in dorms. I don’t like dorms and at Lafayette I get to stay in apartments.”
Unlike most players her size, Agbuke runs the floor really well according to Alfaro.
