Georgia Southern
2005 -- (8-4) Sewak option offense
2006 -- (3-8) VanGorder
2007 -- (7-4) Hatcher passing offense
Hawaii
1995 -- (4-8) Bob Wagner running Johnson's offense. Johnson was the OC there until 1993.
'96-'98 -- (5-31) Fred vonAppen, a bad Bill Wash wannabe fails miserably
1999 -- (9-4) June Jones wins the WAC
I think this points to the fact that this is more about coaching than style of offense. Besides, don't most new hires get at least 3 years (9 in some cases) to turn things around?
Then you didn't listen very well to Coach Johnson. Hatcher had two losing seasons in a row, before Monken was named head coach. And, There were two classes of recruits still left on scholarship from Sewak when Monken took over the program. So the personel was still there to run the Triple Option. Clearly there is a transition with offensive linemen and the quarter back, Paul Johnson talks about it in his book.
The questions remains for all those that wanted Rickey Bustle fired for 6-6 seasons, are you ready to build another two more years with losing?
No matter who we hire there is no guarantee that we will have a winning season no matter what system they use. Coach Bustle was fired because his system did not get above .500. Now people are scared to go to another system. Baldwin used a spread passing offense. I really don't care what system is used as long as we score more than the other team 7 or more times a year.
Sewak's last season was 2005.
Monken is coaching in 2010.
The number of players still on scholarship recruited to run the option can probably be counted on 1 hand.
Yes, there is a transition, just like there is every time you change staffs!!!!!
Quit chasing bogeymen.
Hey CajunT, just be glad your guy has a fighting chance. Because, if Monken was available, this search would have been over last week.
Does this type of offense set us up to compete with bigger teams? That was always my complaint with Bustle's scheme. You knew going in that we had no chance against an SEC team.

If neither for or against the triple option, but it seems that Blaine Gauthiers skill set would/could be perfect for this kind of scheme.

Quit drinking the special of the day! First, it was this guy never was given the chance at Ole Miss (Orgeron) and now this guy was screwed at Georgia Southern (Sewak). Next thing you will be telling everyone is Monken turned down UL because he is a candidate at Miami or Florida.LOL!!!
For the record, I like Monken.
So by saying its more about coaching rather than the offense, why such the defense of the triple option itself? If he's that good of a coach, couldn't he come in and run an offense based on the personnel available? This seems to contradict previous posts that you've made. In my mind, the flexbone option which is what this is by the way, is somewhat similar to the veer. However, I tend to believe that both are somewhat obsolete and if a defense figures the scheme out, the offense it not as equipped to make adjustments and become more balanced. I think the spread offers more chances for the smaller programs to compete with the larger schools and create matchups that they can exploit. It ALL centers around coaching and scheme but I just feel that the flexbone is not what we need.
