Default In other coaching news... and Urban Meyer steps down

Just something for your reading enjoyment.

Chip Brown was the pearson that Broke the UT to Pac 10 Story. Here is a write up by him about the Texas State HC search.

"Texas State, which is about to join the Western Athletic Conference, has a list of candidates that could become very intriguing to Texas fans.

According to a source close to the Texas State program, the candidates set to interview with Texas State include:

--Tim Brewster - spent 13 years as an assistant to Mack Brown at North Carolina and Texas before going to the NFL as an assistant and ultimately to Minnesota as head coach in 2007. He was fired in mid-October this season and received a $600,000 buyout.

--Jerry Gray - former Longhorn standout defensive back who is now coaching defensive backs (including Earl Thomas) with the Seattle Seahawks.

--Les Koenning - now the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Mississippi State who served as the OC under Dennis Franchione at A&M.

--Dennis Franchione - Franchione was the head coach of the Bobcats in 1990-91, when it was still Southwest Texas State. After serving 23 years as a head coach (187-101-2), Franchione, who now does radio color on college football games for ESPN Radio, wants to get back in the game.

--Bobby Jack Wright - The former defensive coordinator at Texas has been at Oklahoma as a defensive assistant under Bob Stoops the past 12 years.

MY (CHIP's) TAKE: If Brewster were to get the job, there's a very good chance, he'd ask Greg Davis to be his offensive coordinator and Mac McWhorter to be his offensive line coach.

How ironic/wild/crazy would that be having Brewster (a recruiting machine who helped land Vince Young), Davis and McWhorter just down I-35 from the Longhorns?

Especially in light of the story, according to sources, that Davis and McWhorter had a chance to join Brewster in Minnesota before the 2010 season but were talked out of it by Mack Brown.

    Stay tuned."

    "Urban Meyer steps down"

Mullen to UF seems plausible, hope this doesn't derail our Hudspeth pursuit.

It'll be interesting to see if Steve Spurrier has any interest in going back to Florida. Especially after he's built South Carolina up and had a really good year.

I doubt Spurrier wants to go back to a place where they expect championships. I think Mullen is candidate numero uno.
