So little money they have to settle for a state of the art 8,000 seat ball park. I guess those little extra dollar discount at the Bertman Park Manor may have dried up after the viscous press wanted to know how come baseball athletes got the only known discounts.

I thnk they were brought over here to help contain the overgrowth of a plant, or possible other creatures, and then began to become a nuisance as well. As Alanis Morrisette would say, "Isn't it ironic, don't you think...a little too ironic, yes i really do think." I suppose we have the Tabasconians to thank for it.

I knew the story regarding nutria being introduced to control vegetation and then being a bigger nuisance themselves... just didn't know that Tobasco had anything to do with it.

I have an idea regarding the advertisement/sponsorship angle with our Cayenne/Ragin Cajun identity. We should not work the locals and their ties to spicy sauces. We should solicit to those in far reaching places that have no identity in our area, or within our alumni influence.

The marketing tactic is to bring in the outsider. He is appreciative of the advertising opportunity ($) and it wakes up your local businessmen. You don't keep soliciting to people in your backyard, who already believe they have an identity within your demographic. There are plenty of "spice" people out there. What transpires is a realization from the locals that you either join in, or you lose out.

Not that I have to make an analogy... but, it is a little like trying to get that special girl to be interested in you, that just doesn't think you are anything but a "local" average guy. Bring home a pretty girl from somewhere else, and somehow your stock goes up. You may even find you don't want the local girl. You might just stick to the girl that you brought to the dance. But, either way, it opens up lots of possibilities, if you know what I mean.

I truly believe that some of our untapped sources are "outside" people that would get a real kick out of coupling up with our Ragin Cajun identity. If the local business people that have snubbed us, get a load of our new suiters, they just might want to come to the table and negotiate.

Tabasco had nothing to do with the nutria. UL grad, Shane Bernard, is the company historian, and he has disproven the legend.

    Keyword there is "company"

There was a "zoo" out on Avery Island, where the family had a collection of animals... a hurricane damged the fences etc, and a few new species were introduced to the area.

I do know that the family has spent a lot of money trying to deflect responsibility...

But the version I know is that Nutria were bought to this region as part of a collection.

    Default UL Mascot

On the USC board, someone asked what our mascot looked like (compared to their gamecock). One of our alums posted with a copy of Cayenne. The responses weren't very good, as you can see below. I tried to post a copy of Cayenne that was posted on their board, but couldn't copy it.

Actually, they are correct. The mascot is hideous. I remember thinking the same thing seeing it on the sideline at the LSU game. It is a bad joke and UL is the brunt of the joke.

Why can't we find something that will be appreciated by alumni, fans and visitors? We talked before about the Bullgator or the Catahoula (state dog). Either would be great and an enormous improvement over that joke of a mascot we have now. The pepper looks good on a cap as an accent to Ragin, but as a mascot, it just doesn't work.

Geez, I cannot accept criticism about our pepper from people who refer to themselves as "cock fans". Now, that's a joke.

Poo Poo Broussard would be a better mascot than Cayenne.

I still say we should have kept the bulldog and just name him Ragin Cajun 1, 2, 3 and so on. We could put a fleur de lis around his collar or he could wear a sweater with our logo.
