Thread: Cayenne as a UL Mascot hahahahha

    Default Stuck in the past?!?

Forgive me if my words sound harsh.

Better than being stuck in the past, let's move on. The Cajun Chicken and Cajun Man and Bulldog are gone for good. End of story. Cayenne is our mascot and our nickname is Ragin Cajuns. If you don't like something about Cayenne, or if you have some suggestions on what you wanna see him do, I've included below the contact information for Union Program Council's Ross Walters, the advisor for Cayenne. Send him a letter, email, or contact him and give him some ideas.

Sid, how long have you been in the suit? I have noticed a marked increase in the enthusiasm of the pepper lately. People will accept cayenne if you put the time and passion into it. A mascot needs to encite the crowd and give them free stuff! Keep on keepin on.

There was nothing "Cajun" about the Russell Heim bit (Cajun Chicken), but the antics, skits, spirit and enthusiasm was the ticket for me.

Even though the Pepper has really no personality to its presence, I feel that a person like Russell Heim might be able to make an impression.

Whoever is the pepper now is better than the goofball from a few years ago. Pepper could still stand some more RAGIN' HEY GET CRAZY

The new look pepper is definitely better than the old look pepper. The old pepper suit looked odd from far away. the flames looked like dorsal plates. people at a&m asked me if it was a dinosaur. kids love the pepper. i think there is room for the cayenne and a catahoula.

    " Think about it. Gumbo 1, Gumbo 2, Gumbo 3 "

I like it as long as its a real dog and not some styrofoam gizmo. Just one thing about Gumbo LSU is going to accuse UL of stealing their yearbook name.

The Auburn Tigers have a "War Eagle". Why can't the Ragin Cajuns have a Bulldog?

OK, if not a Bulldog then how about a Moccasin, as in water, or a Pelican or something.

i say we just have a live bulldog and let that be our mascot. Maybe brand Ragin Cajuns on him.

I agree, I dont know many people afraid of a Cayenne Pepper.

How many people are in mortal fear of a buckeye hitting them on the head? How many people are terrified of a country boy husking corn? How many people are worried about an engineer making boilers? How many people are curled up in like an infant from the mighty Ducks, or some lame land grabbing cheating Sooner. Stanford has a tree for crying out lound the only time you fear a tree is in hurricanes, or if they are dead and getting ready to fall.

My belief is that a spirit leader or mascot needs to typify the region, and I do believe the pepper does that, but how can you make a living moving pepper.

Now the BEST mascott I have ever seen is the UCSB Gaucho. WH not do something like that? Instead of a costume, just take an ordinary guy, dress him in cajun style clothes, and voila!

Here is my version of what happened: The hups (higher ups) didn't want the chicken to overshadow the monetarily invested pepper so they issued an edict that no bright yellow objects or articles of clothing would be allowed on the court.

Seriously though? This (to me) exposes the shear weakness of the pepper mascot in that it couldn't withstand the rigors of a single throwback game at Blackham.
It would be nice if that ugly pepper would actually come to the basketball games .

    UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Mascot Question <img border=0 src=

ooh i hate the pepper, such a gay mascot, hugged me once cause the idiot friends of mine told the pepper that it was my birthday, i wanted to push the pepper down the steps, simply cause i dont like the suit, it just looks so idiotic, i know a bulldog was a bad choice considering the humidity and their ever present breathing problems in high humidity but cmon, what marketing flunky came up with that
