I still would rather see one of the option guys (Sewak, Monken) get the job. Several reasons...
1. The Flexbone offense would be unique in the Sun Belt, making it very difficult to prepare for. Many coaches whose team plays against Navy say that they put in time each week of the year preparing to play against the option because it takes so long to learn.
2. UL will be able to recruit some of the undersized or looked over, though still highly talented, recruits from the region who would otherwise be moved to other positions (especially QBs). A smaller offense line is preferable in this offense and again, these guys are easier to sign.
3. An option guy is much less likely to use UL as a stepping stone. While it is a good offense for a mid-sized school like UL, many of the bigger schools still refuse to use the option because using anything that is not "pro-style" can scare away some of the elite (NFL Caliber) recruits.
