Cloud looms over German degree program at UL

German might not be that big of a deal, but my friends and I have been hearing around campus that the French program was getting cut. UL wouldn't do a moronic thing like that, right Hopefully that speculation was about the German program.

It's a shame though, I wouldn't have minded learning German.

if my understanding is correct, you will still be able to take some german classes you just wont be able to major in it.... I could be completely wrong though

I understand budget cuts can affect many things. I don't see how or why this degree program should be cut. IF Dr. Huey is to stay at UL, regardless of nixing the German major, why not keep the option available to the students. It's still in it's infancy sorta. I was in her class when she arrived at UL.

But how much money can they actually be saving the university by eliminating this program? I don't see it costing THAT much to run. When they remove this degree option what are those handful of students going to do who are probably close to GRADUATING? Suddenly change majors to their minor and spent another year or two catching up? What about the other non major students looking to fill in a language requirement? With a reduction of "force" in the teachers, classes will be hard to get in to and make a few students delayed in their graduations as well.

More I think about it. Budgets cuts ultimately seem to make students stay at the universities longer and pay more tuition. My conspiracy about "the man"

i'm sure it will be similar to how the dropping of the philosophy major was done. let those who are currently majoring in i complete their course work and no longer take on students majoring in that field. they will more than likely keep 100 & 200 levels but nothing high than that.
