Josh I saw you mentioned Burton Burns at the end of your blog. I remember reading about him on Jay's blog and was intrigued by him. how qualified do you think he is for this job? I'm not sure he is experienced enough.

A few people have mentioned his name, but definitely not a leading candidate from what I'm hearing. Again, take that with a huge grain of salt as people don't always show their cards in job searches. Plus, some of the front-runners could slide back with bad interviews.

A former Nebraska fullback in the 1970s, Burns has local ties. He's 52 and originally from New Orleans. Was an assistant in the prep ranks at St. Aug (twice) and Booker T. Washington in Shreveport. He was an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Southern from 1981-85 and the associate head coach at Tulane from 1994-98 (including that 12-0 season in his final year). At Tulane he worked under Buddy Teevens and Tommy Bowden. He has since worked with the running backs at Clemson (1999-2006 under Bowden) and Alabama (2007-present under Nick Saban) with strong results.

He lacks experience as a head coach, but so do a couple other candidates that have been mentioned. Saban hired him, and that stands for something.
