LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Louisiana-Lafayette athletics director
David Walker says he hopes to hire a new head football coach to
replace Rickey Bustle by mid-December.
Walker announced on Monday that Bustle would not be retained for
2011, the final season of his contract.
Walker says the search process for a new coach began several
weeks before Bustle led the Ragin' Cajuns to a 23-22 triumph in
their season finale Saturday over Louisiana-Monroe, which snapped a
seven-game skid.
Walker says there are "seven or eight" candidates, whom he is
not naming at this time. He also says about half have head coaching
experience, which he says is not a requirement.
Bustle coached the Ragin' Cajuns for nine seasons, with an
overall record of 41-65.
