Crowton out at LSU?

His play calling cost LSU in the Arkansas game. Whether you like LSU or not he has made great 5 star athletes look terrible. What would he do to our players. I am sure LSU would give him great support for our job to get rid of him. Buyer beware!

_ Just read the article and what I think is that it is ridiculous to conclude whether Crowton is a good coach or not based on that one piece. It takes bits and pieces of a man's career...never looks at anything else such as injuries or personel available to him...then implies that he's only good for a year at a time.

I've decided that I am more reasoned than that...and will let the administration that will have all kinds of information available to them on ALL candidates make a determination as to who might be best to lead our program...PERIOD.

If it were jsut at one program I might agree with you but it seems to be a pattern he repeats virtually everywhere he has been.

I believe Les Miles calls the plays, not Crowton. bballholic can you help us out?

Crowton is an intriguing candidate. I don't think I'd call him at the bottom of my list but he comes with his issues like anyone else. The funny thing is that we are all stating who will make a good coach and who will not before any of them have been interviewed or hired and basing our assumptions on not much. I do not think this university will hire him because we are not in the business of making name hires only. The administration went away from that temptation this past year when hiring the basketball coach and went with the solid but unspectacular Bob Marlin. I say that because there were much larger names floating around at the time but they went with a solid and proven program builder and strategic coach. I think in the longterm, that decision will pay off big time. I think the football coaching hire will follow a similar pattern. The Crowtons and Orgerons are good for discussion but little else. The administration will not hire them due to various factors but the bottom line is the risk is too high. For the amount it will take to hire either one, there is little room for error if the program takes a step backwards and we are dumping lots of private dollars into their salaries and potential buyouts. Crowton is interesting due to his vast experience over all levels and his name and reputation would likely enable us to recruit on a more national level than we have. I can't say whether he would be a good hire but I think it is interesting to look into. I would be concerned about the defense as we have not had a defensive identity in....Well, never. We have traditionally been beat on the line of scrimmage and don't have that tough run defense where we are more physical than the other team and that is what I want to see.

Hypothetical in game conversation between Miles and Crowton:

Les: Hey Gary!! (partially inaudible due to Les chewing on his own sleeve)

Gary: Yeah Les what is it (Gary has to set down his crossword puzzle like Stanley from "The Office")

Les: What did you have for breakfast this morning Gary!!!

Gary: (with no feeling at all like he has done this a thousand times) Eggs Les...

Les: Eggs???!!!!

Gary: (once again no emotion just going through the motions) Yes....Eggs.

Les: Alright!!!

(Jordan Jefferson looks to the sidelines for the play call from Coach Miles)

Les: JJ, (whistles with this fingers) Eggs baby!!!! Eggs!!!!

(JJ stares at Coach Miles stoicly and just nods his head like he knows exactly what Coach is talking about and lines up to run....Eggs)

(Les realizing Arkansas has lined up in a strange formation consults Gary Crowton one more time)

Les: Holy Jumping Jupiter Gary I think they know the play...quick what did you have for Lunch Gary???

Gary: (once again with no emotion) Chicken Salad Sandwich Les....

Les: OK!!! OK!!! I'm going with it. (Whistles again with his fingers for JJ's attention) Chicken Salad Sandwich!!! Run the play!!!!

(JJ audibles at the line and prepares for the snap, unfortunately JJ is sacked and fumbles at the one yard line to end the football game)

Les: Dang Nabbit!!!! Sonofabiscuiteater!!! (JJ comes to the sideline dejected) What was that JJ???!!!

JJ: I'm sorry coach, I tried to make the play, but they just were too fast. Good audible coach.

Les: Yeah it was a good call, and makes me a might bit peckish for a Chicken Salad Sandwich myself. You want one JJ???

JJ: No coach, don't really feel that hungry right now.

Les: Suit yourself, hey Gary!!!!

Gary: (He has already grabbed his coat and his crossword puzzle and is about to walk out the door) What is it Les...

Les: Hey Gary, you wanna go grab a bite to eat!!!

Gary: No Les, I just wanna get on the bus and go home if that's alright with you.

There has been a lot of speculation about this over the past couple of seasons. I believe there has been some disagreement between the two, but the real culprit in my opinion has been poor recruitment and lack of development at the QB position. Having said that, there is a distinct pattern that shows his offensive schemes become stale after a couple of years. Also, I'd be worried about his commitment to recruiting and his willingness to hit the road to promote the program.

I'm all for paying the extra money to get a better coach, and I happen to be in the school of thought that a "big name" would be more beneficial for the program. My thinking is that it'll give a good initial spark in recruiting, fan hype, etc.

That being said, after doing a bit of research on this guy I think we could get a little better bang for our buck. I just don't think he's worth the investment. We can get better, and probably get it for cheaper as well.

...I don't think the Cajuns need anyone who was involved in the offense that was on the field at the end of the Tennassee game earlier this year. Regardless of who was calling the shots.

I really wish Mike Leach or Jim Leavitt were viable candidates, I'm assuming they're not very interested.

Well UL played Sam Houston the last two years so some were aware. But I think SlappyCajuns was the first to mention his name. Link

thank you for the link. I think it's obvious our next head coach's name has already been mentioned on here but I dont know if it's someone we all expect to get the job.

Every play is designed to score. I don't buy into an arm chair quarterback's perspective. You don't go 9-2 in the SEC if you don't know what your doing. He's very limited by his Quarterbacks making bad decisions, dropped passes, missed blocks, and sometimes the athletes on defense actually make plays. He's been very successful everywhere he's been. He won't leave LSU for UL, you can bank on that.
