I read where Hudspeth is interested in the Arkansas St. job. I am not saying its a better job than UL just that there appears to be some mutal interest. I am sure some of the candidates that we have interest in A State will have interest in also.

J/K. Does it concern any of you that if we hire Monken, Brent Pry will return as our D- coordinator? _
Why do you say that? When Monken was up for the LaTech job, that was not who he had lined up for DC.

If Monken decides to come to UL, I sure as heck want Pry to come with him.

You have to go back to the Vic Eumont days of the early 90's to find better defensive numbers at our university.

Also, Pry's defense at Georgia Southern is one of the national leaders in total defense and scoring defense.

Brent Pry is an outstanding DC.

Were we good enough to recycle the same coaches? Pry couldn't recruit enough for us to win the first time around

Well we won in 05 (6-5) and had a winning reocrd in 06 (6-5) but lost the last game.

I think for the most part the offense was the weak link in 06 when Pry was fired. Although there were a few games where a lot of points were given up.

I know you couldn't possibly hold the first 2 years against Pry. If we gave Bustle a pass for those 2 years, Pry gets it as well.

    Now, lets's compare.

    '04-'06

17-18 record, Cajuns gave up 25 points per game.

    Next closest time frame:

    '94-'96

17-16 record, Cajuns gave up 28 points per game

You have to include the Eumont year of 1993 to find a better 3 year stint defensively at UL than the Pry years:

    '93-'95

20-13 record, Cajuns gave up 23 points per game

    Stats speak for themselves.

He may move up, if he is that good. GaSo will probably go back to the Option, and back to winning. They have more championship flags around that stadium than I have ever seen. Furman had a lot, too.

Brent was not a bad coordinator and yes, the stats from many of his defenses were not that bad. One glaring weakness was that his defenses did not turn people over enough and he was not committed to the blitz. When he did blitz, his DB's stayed off the receivers 10 yards and that kind of negated the point of the blitz when the QB and WR could recognize this and adjust their routes. We never had more than 9 interceptions and while the sack numbers did go up and the rush defense did improve, the pass defense deteriorated from 04-06. What does this mean? I'm not really sure but I do remember watching on 3rd downs and getting so upset with each conversion as to why we couldn't stop people when we had to. Overall, I would not be against Brent coming back but I don't know if he would want to. If he could instill an overall defensive toughness in our players then I'm for whomever they decide to hire.
