I don't see why deforest is being talked about so much, he is a special teams coach who is coming from a school with ZERO defense and just has to outscore everyone with a top 3 heisman candidate and 2 dark horse heisman candidates on offense. Doesn't seem like that would translate well here or what we are looking for. Jmo

I am my no means an expert in what type coach UL needs but from my standpoint we need someone no older than say 40 to 42. They have energy, they want to win so they can move up the coaching tree. If we get a guy like Crowton for example he is already 52, 53 years old so from my standpoint he is just looking to make pretty good money for 3 to 5 years then he can retire if fired or forced to resign. I feel we need to the up and comer not the sexy name or from the sexy school.

I am not saying he is the right coach for UL but for me running or throwing who cares just get me some wins!!!! You have to admit Paul Johnson's offense has worked well at the Naval Acadmey and Georgia Tech. Air Force and now Army run the same offense and I think all 3 service acadmeys are bowl eligible this year. This type offense is a great equalizer when you are playing the LSU's, Florida's, etc. and you have lesser talent. But I don't care what offense they run just get the wins and get to a bowl game.

Agreed. If it wins it works. If you do run the option though you can wave good bye to seeing any type of high caliber receiver or quarterback recruits. However, you could basically play a running back at QB.

I think most worrisome about him is his resume is not there yet. He has no coordinator experience (except special teams) at any of his stops. And his one FCS record is only 8-4.

Can a new coach be named before that coach's current team is completely finished the season? If that is the case, we won't know the new coach until he is done with any bowl games this year.?

Having only one year as HC and no OC/DC experience is a concern. I was mostly responding to the fact that it doesn't matter whether UL runs or throws just get the W.

They say that experience is a great teacher---maybe we need to take a look at Monroe and what they did---got a guy who had been around and they got experience at a great price---He came and cleaned house and had a damn good year---When you think of the time that it usually takes for a turn-around some don't get the time ---Bustle had 9 years(so this doesn't apply) ----A coach might have lost but what did he have to coach---the players remaining couldn't win---the new guys weren't too good (left over from the pickings)---ergo about 2-3 years with inferior players-----This is what makes personality for recruiting so important (Head and assistant coaches) Every time I look at the situation, Ogeron is the deal---wish he would take less!!!!!

Pretty sure that would be up to the school he leaves. I think the NFL may have a rule in place WRT this practice; but don't think so in college.

    On front page of http://www.dandydon.com/

"I received several emails Sunday asking if I am expecting any changes on the coaching staff and that is a good question. I do believe that there will be at least one change on offense, but not any on defense unless a head coaching job becomes open at a mid-sized 1-A school. If there are any changes I believe it will be the offensive coordinator's position. I have been told that Crowton is a candidate for the UL job."

Interesting potential hires for Defensive coaches if we go with the guy from Georgia Southern....

    D- Coordinator

    D-Line/Recruiting Coordinator

    From the list BOP gave:

    1) Monken -- Outside The Box Hire. Virtually guarantee bowl bid on most years as offense would be hard for SBC members to prepare for. No one knows what is in Johnson's head more than Monken. Took a team built around passing in the tougest conference in FCS and had a nice year including a win over #1 App St.

People forget. Some of the most exciting and productive Cajun football squads almost ran the option exclusively. From Mitchell to Desmo, option football has excelled here.

If you want points, yards, and WINS. Hire Monken.

    2) Crowton -- Most qualified coach interested in the job. Enough said.

    3) Hudspeth -- Proven head coach.

    4) McGee -- Impressive resume. No head coaching experience.

    5) Jenkins -- Would like to see a lttle more resume.

    6) Harper -- Very unimpressive resume until he hired Shannon Dawson to run Hal Mumme's offense at SFA. Dawson may be the guy we want to interview.

The other 3 guys BOP mentioned make me throw up in my mouth a little.

Please NO CROWTON for me he is just not that impressive. He is too old and not hungry enough just trying to draw a pay check. We need a young aggressive coach 35 to say 42 at the oldest looking to move up. Before you say anything I am an old fart 65.
