Mike Canales

As a North Texas alum I (along with many others) am very disappointed with us not hiring interim coach Mike Canales. He did a great job in his time here in Denton and has shown to be a first class guy in his handling of his situation. Today I heard from someone very close to Coach C that Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas State had already been in contact with him about their head coaching vacancies. If you do some research on Coach C I think ya'll would be very satisfied with him as your head coach. I hate that we did not hire him, but if you have any doubts in him I suggest you read the forums at gomeangreen.com. He is the next up-incoming coach in college football. We really screwed this one up! I would hate to see him at another Sun Belt school but he definitely deserves the opportunity. I'm not sure what other names have been rumored in yall's coaching search but he is one to check out.

There are a number of coaches that are being contacted by the search firm. I'm not surprised he is one of amongst others that haven't been mentioned on any board yet. Many of these contacts will not lead to interviews.

I did read that the Denton article with quotes from players who wanted Canales to get the permanent head coaching job.

Ok, It made me curious, so looking at UNT's last 5 games, they beat WKU and MT, and lost to ULM, Troy and K State. He may be well liked, but I'm not sure I see anything that stands out for him to be our next head coach.

Did you read up on how NTU plyed in those games ---I seem to remember that the loses were close---any idea on this???? also when a coach doesn't get a job in this situation the kids are upset!!!!

Just like UL has a history of close upsetting losses. We dont need anymore "moral victories" but we need ACTUAL victories. UL this year alone had 3 close losses Including Troy, an 8-3 Ohio team and FAU. So I guess we should have kept Bustle because of this too right?

I'd have to agree that we're not looking for someone who can fall short of victories like we are used to.
Few things bother me.A UNT Alum, saying a division rival should hire the coach they no longer have. Almost like Spy vs. Spy trying to convince the other that the apple is poisoned. Just don't trust rivals.
And even if so many player speak so highly of Canales doesn't speak much volume for me personally. I know a lot of our currently players would speak the same of Bustle. "Oh they shouldn't let him go" We need someone tried and tested. Now is not the time for us to experiment so the rest of the SBC can rip through us.
