Ragin' Cajuns Re: Football Scoop on Hudspeth Press Conference

Liked him from the first couple of sentences: "Visor not (mad) hat guy." "University of LOUISIANA." As for my favorite flavor of Kool-Aid, it's Red.

Hold on to your visor! Hand Hud the match! Watch the fireworks fly!!!

  5. Default New coach Hudspeth has big plans for UL

He can also see the day when the Ragin’ Cajuns win the New Orleans Bowl and, yes, even finish in the Top 25. Those are some of the reasons the 42-year-old Hudspeth, a former successful head coach at North Alabama and, most recently, the passing game ...

  6. Default UL Introduces Mark Hudspeth

In nine seasons as a head coach, Hudspeth totaled a 91-21 record. "We were very fortunate to have many extremely qualified candidates express an interest in becoming the next Ragin' Cajuns head football coach," Walker stated. "Each one possessed qualities ...

I love his enthusiasm. I hope he can maintain that frame of mind as he moves forward and fully realizes the task at hand. He seems like a good motivator and hopefully he can instill that winning mentality into his players. I'm also glad he cleaned house. He said it yesterday - you have to change an entire culture. No need to keep any holdovers.

Hud will get the job done. Recruiting-wise, he has a positive, enthusiastic personality that players and their mamas will like. He had a knack for developing very good QBs at UNA. His first QB Will Hall won the Harlon Hill Trophy which is the top award in DII. His 2nd QB Vinnie Saylor had a very good season despite battling an injury to his throwing shoulder. His 3rd QB A.J. Milwee threw for a UNA record 8,436 yards. He always had an effective running game until the last couple of seasons when the Oline was decimated by injuries.

Though UNA is a DII school, they are always in the upper crust and has always had good success against D1 schools. As a matter of fact, I made the trip down to Lafayette back in '97 when UNA knocked off the Cajuns in quadruple overtime. So the competition that he's been successful against is very good and now he has D1 coaching time under his belt so there's no doubt in my mind he will hit the ground running.

You had us at "Hud will get the job done." But then you had to remind us of that game.

Sorry bout that chief. I met some good people on that trip and Bobby Wallace, who was coaching UNA at the time, was impressed with what he thought could be done there. THAT worried me. Too bad he didn't wait for that job to open instead of getting the death penalty at Temple when Temple was still a member of what was a powerful Big East at that time.

  11. Default Hudspeth: A coach's life

LOUISVILLE, Miss. - The scenic beauty of this sleepy town nestled in the rolling hills of east-central Mississippi provides the perfect setting for an escape from life's worries.

It was here in Louisville — a community of about 7,000 with a laid-back attitude and genuine Southern hospitality — that Mark Hudspeth first showed the signs of his competitive nature, willingness to lead and determination to succeed. A love of sports helped him cultivate those qualities.
