It's a spread offense similar to what we ran before.

And no, we can't be under center because even in the shotgun the QB has less than 2 seconds to get rid of the ball before he's on his back. UL cannot (and will not, and should not) run a pro style offense.

I too am a bit concerned about running the same scheme, because this means we must upgrade our talent. We haven't been a solid recruiting school compared to our peers in a while (ever?).

Our success will depend 80% on our increased recruiting ability with a new coaching staff if Hudspeth is hired.

It's one of the reasons why I'm open to Sewak. All of a sudden the recruiting game is changed.

Looks like you were counting the time the QB had this year also! If we could have solved that problem we would have had more success, but that is in the past now.

Hudspeth's offenses at UNA averaged more rushing attempts than passing attempts per game, same for MSU's offense this season.

It's the same old spread EVERYBODY runs. It has no resemblence to Leach, Mumme, or Mangino.

Joshua Parrot has a good description of his offense in today's paper. There is a link to it on ragin pagin. If you read it I think your questions would be answered.

    From Parrott's article:

"In 2008, Hudspeth told American Football Monthly that UNA utilized the spread about 50 percent of the time while he was there. The Lions also ran out the I-formation with the quarterback under center and out of the shotgun with split backs.

That up-tempo, no-huddle approach made life tough for opposing defenses. UNA was averaging 45 points and 555 yards of total offense per game at the time."

Isn't that better than what we were "guaranteed" by CajunNation if we hired Sewak???

Is there any concern that the HC opening at Florida will trickle down to effect Hudspeth in any way?

    Yes, there's concern.

But we have no way of knowing Hudspeth's desires (whether it be head coaching, or coordinating at a super major).

I think he is past that... and wants the job. The guy was on campus Wednesday night. I really think he will be offered the job today.

Since he was in the hunt before pulling his name for the monroe job last year (allegedly due to their lack of resources) and now he has been in the hunt for this job I would say he wants to be a HC. Not to be argumentative but who says he would be the OC at Florida if Mullen were to go there?
