agreed. knows how to recruit FBS talent as well since he did recruiting for both UL and Rutgers before becoming HC at B-CU. would be a very good hire in my opinion if this were to be the choice but we shall see

Gary Crowton makes almost 700k at LSU. Kirby Smart makes in that same neighborhood.

If you pay the head coach that much, how much can you pay the assistants who do most of the work? Will UL assistants still be some of the worst paid in the FBS?

We keep talking about how much money we supposedly have to pay a new head coach but i haven't seen anyone accurately reveal how much we can pay his coordinators and position coaches.

We have the highest paid assistants in the conference and I doubt that will change.

That's why you have a search firm do preliminary work before contacting a coach for a interview. Crowton and Smart make more money then we can afford, so the conversation may end quickly with both. Crowton has made overtures so we will see if he is interested or just checking the temperature. The numbers I've been told may not be exact to the penny, but I fill comfortable with the sources to tell you we have $400K-$475K salary for HC and 150K for Coordinators. You can add incentives to that number. That would push UL assistants over $900K-$1Mil.

I'd like to see our next head coach be a defense guy. Someone who gets his players to play smash mouth football.

I don't care if we hire a BCS coordinator, a FCS head coach, the secondary coach at Notre Dame of Crowley or the ghost of Knute Rockne, I just want someone who can win 7 damn games in the weakest conference in the universe so we can go to a friggin bowl game......

We also have better facilities compared to 2002 when Bustle was hired. Not sure how we compare to ourfriends with new stadiums. What we do have that UNT and the others do not is 40000 people out in the parking lot waiting for a good reason to buy a ticket.

Just because they were the highest paid doesn't mean they were the best assistant coaches for the job they were hired to do. Higher pay doesn't always correlate to being the best. It should but its not always the case. Maybe we should have hired lower priced assistant coaches they may have worked harder to get higher pay down the road.

It's great to win with someone else's players, especially when it's your first head coaching gig, but he needs to show he can win with his players on a consistent basis. I'm not sure I want to be his proving ground. Maybe the new coach will make him the OC, if both are interested.

I was not responding to a comment about how good our asst. coaches are. The comment was about the asst. coach pay. BUT to respond to u, paying the asst. coaches better is the same theory as paying the HC more, the more money you have to offer the more attractive your job. You might find good coaches for lower pay however the more money you can offer the better chance you have to lure better coaches.
