_ Look we have to be realistic. We are a mid- size program. We have to take a srtong look at a Coach that understands our program and what we need. We dont need someone who thinks this program is a stepping stone. WE NEED A COACH THAT WILL BE WILLING TO BUILD OUR PROGRAM TO A TOP LEVEL, A CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL, A CONSISTANT WINNER. We dont want this to be a revolving door type of situation. This will only set us back. Now lets look at a list of coaches who would maybe interested or we should take a look at and why. this doesnt they are the guy.

Clay Jennings- TCU secondary coach, TCU has been a consistant winner and may win the national championship. He has won a championships at Houston as well. He coached at UL for several years and is a coach on the rise. Has a def background and TCU has one of the top defenses for several years.

Frank Wilson- LSU RB coach. He was part of the turn around at Southern Miss. He has worked at Tenn. and moved onto LSU now. He has strong Louisiana ties. Has been one of the top recuiters in Louisana for several years. Very well respected in the state. another coach on the rise.

Matt Viator- Mcneese State Head Coach, is a proven winner. Has beaten UL and several other mid level programs. Has ran a top level program for several years. Has won several conferance championships. Very well known through out louisana.

Eddie Gran- Florida State -Special teams coord, has worked U. Miami, Cinn, Ole Miss, Tenn and now Florida St. He has coached many NFL players and won many championships. Has been one of the top recruiters for a very long time. Is a proven coach.

Brian Jenkins - Head Coach Bethune Cookman, has worked at Rutgers, ULL, NFL Europe and other winning programs. Won the conf. in his first year as a HC. One of the Top recruiters in the state of florida and louisana. Has coache many top level players. Proven winner

I am glad you are not doing the hiring. That is the worst list I ever saw for a head coach. All position coaches? By the way if we get a coach that can get us to a championship level and a bigger school wants that coach we won't be able to compete with the dollars they offer. If a coach leaves UL for a better job (which has never happened) it would be the best thing that has ever happened in the history of the program. Right now its a grave yard job.

Frank was the one who pulled a fast one on us and took a UL car to Ruston and excepted a job at La Tech not long after getting the job at UL. Chris was the HC at Tulane.

Let me help you out Ed is not coming to UL. You actually think he would leave USC to be the HC coach at UL. Wow He was at once the head coach at Ole Miss. He is not coming to UL. Everyone keeps putting these big name guys out there. A big name is not going to win ball games because of his name.. What we need is a guy who can bring this program some energy and be able to awake this community. This list of guys I put out there are guys who are upcoming coaches who have established themselves as next level HC's. We also dont want a coach who is here for two years then decides to leave and we end up right back in the same position. Look at the teams in our conf. like MSU and TROY. Both of those coaches could have left and decided to stay. The end result has been championships for both of them. UL needs to not make the mistake and get cought up in the name game.

Not to insult you, but do read anything? First, Ed Orgeron expressed interest in UL. It was purely a money issue. He made it clear he would like to be back in this area and as a HC. It has been made very clear as his interest and ours moved along that we have disengaged due to the level of money he would require. We have a limit and he knows it.

And, again... you do not know what you are talking about with respect to coaches staying or going after they are successful. There are no guarantees. You do not limit the field of choices to a local guy (the only guy that might stay even if he were offered better money at larger programs) unless he is absolutely the best candidate out there.

You are also wrong in that a coach that comes in here and builds our program up to championships and bowls... and leaves... does not place us "back where we were". The fallacy of your argument is that there are few coaches that are going to "leave" if they haven't accomplished something to get positive attention from others.

Please make a note... you DO NOT hire someone on the basis of them staying here indefinitely. You will never EVER be able to make that determination until you look at it in hindsight. And as far as I know, there is only one Book that foretells the future... and it does not include what happens with the Cajun football coaches.

Not every sucessful coach has coordinator experience. Just take a look at Urban Meyer who was a WR coach at Notre Dame before becomming the head coach at Bowling Green, before he went to Utah then Florida.

Yes, a coach has to start ....somewhere. However, a coordinator has some experience with calling the game, and that is harder than you think. However, HC hires OC & DC. Organization, time management, recruiting, fund raising, etc. are what a HC does. Then, game plans with coaches who do the coaching. The AD and HC must work together, and that is big. So much more to coaching than it appears. The bigger the program the more PR is required. The smaller, more hats to wear. ULL needs to be realistic. The budget restraints will dictate what coach can be hired. Plus, do not forget that big named coaches have agents. Saban was not a big name when LSU hired him. Sexton was his agent and he sold them the bill of goods. However, it worked out pretty well. Money for staff is a huge part of the success. Look what the coordinators are making at successful schools. So. Car. hired Johnson as DC and is paying $700k+ and it has paid big dividends. There are some coaches out there that would fit the Cajuns, but it will take time to find the right one. Can't jump on the ones that agents put out there. Patience.
