UL-Lafayette: We have learned that ULL coaches were told last night that head coach Rickey Bustle will coach his last game today against UL-Monroe. Several people close to the situation tell us that ULL would like to offer USC assistant Ed Orgeron in the $425,000 range. We have heard that ULL is also interested in Oklahoma State special teams coordinator Joe DeForest and University of Arizona quarterbacks coach Frank Scelfo. We have learned that Arkansas offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee is interested in the job.

Didn't Frank Scelfo screw us over a few years ago when he took a car provided by UL up to Ruston to except a job not long after we hired him.

Hope there will be others besides these listed.

We are not interested in Scelfo, not going to happen. He may be expressing interest behind the scenes, but so have a number of coaches. Deforest and McGee are two that interest our program for sure at this point.

Hire the Cajun! Big Ed's our guy, IMO. We have tried offensive guys over the last 20 years and we have had little success. We need a coach with a defensive backround. The Cajuns need to stop other teams offense. Ed's a big name, great recruiter and a local guy that may want to come home and that gives some security to the university. He has worked at all levels of football from McNeese to Southern Cal. to Ole Miss to the Saints. On the lighter side he would be great for marketing, LOL! If you like Troy Landry from Swamp People, wait until you get a camera in front of Ed!

This would be correct about Scelfo. Orgeron's price would be closer to 750K per year. This administration better get deeper pockets to suit their aspirations.

You are correct. even if they wanted Orgeron, and that is not a given, he would demand too much money. Scelfo chances; slim and none. He already blew any chance he would have (possibly) had.

I do not know who it will be, but it won't be one of those two.

Call me crazy but why not hire an actual head coach? No more OC or DC from a successful program!

With the kind of money that coordinators are making in the big programs now, it really limits non-BCS schools who are looking for coaches. You ending looking at non-coordinator assistants, FCS head coaches and down-on-their luck fired coaches.

FCS head coaches are the only way to go.

The other two should be off limits.

I mostly agree. No non-coordinator coaches (even if they are from around here, special teams-are you kidding me?), coordinator coaches that were successful at more than one program as coordinator, and someone who has been successful as the head coach somewhere.

Deforest will fail. No coordinator experience. No head coaching experience.

McGee could be a home run hire, or a bust. He is a Petrino disciple. Has NFL experience. But has no head coaching experience. Would not be my first choice, but I would give him a chance.
