NEW IBERIA — No time machine will be needed to discover what Louisiana was like in 800 A.D.

UL Lafayette anthropologist Chip McGimpsey will show artifacts and talk about prehistoric Louisiana at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Iberia Parish Library.

He will discuss the rapid cultural changes that began in 800 A.D. in Louisiana, when many Native American groups began shifting from a hunting and gathering society to an increasingly agricultural society.

All who attend the lecture can bring an archaeological “show-and-tell” item, according to library Director Kathy Miles.
