I believe that many people will be pleasantly surprised by the time conference play rolls around. _
I am not as confident as you are. That is not meant to be a criticisim of the staff. My opinion is based upon the fact they will still have the same players they do now come conference time. Those guys know how to play but are nto mentally tough enough to win close games. This is because they have become accustomed to losing due to all the tough outcomes they have had over the last few years. Coach Marlin has the greatest challenge a coach has to face. That is changing the mindset to the point that the guys will "learn how to win".

Agree. Have to find some way to change the culture. But I think that will come. These guys just need to string a couple of wins together. Its not easy to do that, playing this many games close together against good teams at home and on the road.

The Cajuns counted that Nov. 15 meeting as an official game. Louisiana College, an NCAA Division III school, did not. That's due to the varying NCAA rules in regards to the official starting date for Division II and III schools. LC's official opener was against UNO on Nov. 18.

After watching them in Houston last night, I'm not optimistic for this year. Marlin is screaming at them on the bench to run the plays. They just stood around in the second half and were forcing shots when time was running down while everyone was out of position to rebound. We were up by 13 at the half and lost by 13, so that is a 26 point swing. Perez took one shot the whole game that was blocked. There were no pics set for him or anyone to get a shot. For me, it was like watching UL vs. OK State in football, we played pretty good the first half, then fell apart the second. Marlin needs to get his own players. I'm not too excited about this season, but am excited about the future.

Stats say Perez took four shots and made zero. Despite that detail, I understand your suggestion. We should perhaps work harder to get him open off the ball so he can catch and shoot.

In my opinion, Perez is at his best when he can catch and shoot.

Houstoncajun I too was at the game and Perez could not handle the on ball pressure. He does not have a quick release and yes they need to set screens and pics to get him open but even with the screens the defense recovered faster than the shot took to get off. Josh who is also a Marlin recruit forced alot of the bad shots at end of the game. I do understand the feeling for Lee's kids but hey Marlins "recruits" are not dominating the others. Please stop trying to drive a divide between who is and who is not. If Marlin is the coach I think he is then he will prosper. I mean Josh, Scottie, and David are juniors and were someone elses college player before UL. As I recall all of them were on the floor with Andrews and Daigle at the end of the game so they take ownership in the falling apart also. Right Houston?

I think Ramone and Randell are the least of the problems. I think Houston like many others are pointing at the 4/5 spot.

I do agree that Josh is forcing too much. Part of the reason that those wings are pressing is because there are no easy points to be had in the paint. I think as Ramone gets back into shape and hoepfully as JJ and Mbamalu develop we will see some increased offensive production.

I still like Marlin, but Floyd was my first choice! _
Floyd is one of the best college basketball coaches in the country. Has been for more than 20 years (since he brought UNO to the top 20). It is impossible for Floyd to not win at any college program he goes to. He is that good.
