LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The National Park Service will help four
Acadiana parishes create a Bayou Teche paddle trail for canoes,
kayaks and pirogues.
Public meetings are planned Tuesday in Port Barre and Thursday
in Charenton about the proposed route through St. Landry, St.
Martin, Iberia and St. Mary parishes.
Kristen Kordecki, Bayou Teche watershed coordinator for Acadiana
Resource Conservation and Development, says officials want to be
sure this is something people want.
She says that's likely, considering the success of the 130-mile
Tour du Teche canoe and kayak race. Towns all along the way had
parties for the competitors.
The Park Service is offering help developing and managing the
trail through its Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance
program.
