Reconstituting this old thread isn't fair. It's like your buddy coming over to the house and showing your wife a bunch of pictures of you with your old girlfriends. "It ain't cheatin when it was before I knowed you".
I have to admit... Hudspeth does reflect the coach I described long ago as what I'd like to see in the next HC at UL. Young, energetic, a motivator, high football intellect, prior head coaching experience at a lower level, recruiting ties in the region. And although I want us to be able to keep Hudspeth... I also described that if we get this kind of coach and he's successful... we are highly likely going to be in a serious uphill contest to keep him... and that is what I call a "luxurious problem".
I admit, I'm very happy with Coach Hud, but at that time, I didn't know anything about him until later in the coaching search. In this thread, I also said:
If we go with the experienced head coach, then he should be an energetic, sweet talkin, hi football IQ, go getter kind of coach, that's not ready to set up shop and retire.

I just can't wait until we put this sad episode or series of episodes to rest and move on to a new coaching staff and new hope. It will be exciting at least for a couple of years, and who knows, maybe we will experience something we've never experienced in football before.
In a later thread on the subject I said the following:
My take on the four:
Joe DeForest - Could be a great coach, but hard to tell with his experience being mostly Spectial Teams. We can't mess this up, so I wouldn't take the chance.
Gary Crowton - He's ready to leave LSU, We made that mistake before, no thanks. Really though, He has good exp as a head coach, but seems to have 1 good year then leaves.
Mark Hudspeth - The most likely to get the job, if he interviews well and has a plan that includes hiring good coordinators. My top choice.
Gunner Brewer - My second choice, mainly because he has worked under an excellent program with good coaches, and has good coordinator experience. Might be an up and coming type coach.
