Cajun T: As a matter of discussion and not "smack talk", the following was posted by someone on the McNeese board concerning coaches salaries in the ULS System. The data comes directly from the BOR office and is a matter of public information; so, I am not rying to "out" anything or anyone.
My question: Did they miss a coach that should be in here or is there a supplemental pay that is not included. Reason being is La Tech pays Dykes $450,000 + incentives to be the head coach. $250,000 of Dykes base pay is supplemented by the main Louisiana Tech University Foundation. With state budget cuts looming, can the RCAF do the same or for that matter any university athletic foundation do the same, ala the TAF?

Salaries for UL 2009-2010 (Board of Regent Data)
Is a 10% raise for the 2010-2011 budget included in your numbers or is it supplemental?
Ricky Bustle $225,000
Troy Wingerter $ 80,000
Jorge Munoz $ 88,400
Hurlie Brown $ 82,800
Kevin Fourquier $114,400
Ronald Hudson $100,880
Justin Lustig $ 69,800
Daryl Mason $ 72,800
Gerald Broussard $ 72,800
Tim Rebowe $ 72,800
TOTAL = $754,680 for 2009-2010 Budget
Budget and actual dollars spent are two entirely different matters. 1) Football staff has more money from private sources for a new football operations position as well as several graduate assistants. Total spent on assistant salary line is $832,000. Where is the salary for the Strength and Condition Coach? He is also part of the football staff.
You do realize the state will only approve a certain amount of salary for coaches right? Where do you think the extra money came to pay Marlin $300,000? Where will the money come from to pay a new head coach around $400,000? Private funds. Again, the total amount of money spent on assistant salaries is around $832,000, that is at the top of the SBC.
No Smack intended, but some folks over in Lake Charles spend entirely too much time concerning themselves with what our program can spend or not. Budget is one matter, actual money spent is another. Private funds are available to make a good hire.
No problem, Cajun T. McNeese, like all state schools, has to try and grow its athletic foundation. To me, that is the solution and something the boosters at McNeese and other schools have to deal with. My point was that after the Authement days, it seems that the RCAF has made great headway and is something that smaller schools, like McNeese, need to learn to imitate. I tip my hat to the UL fans and administrators of the RCAF. You are proactive enough to make something happen and it's inspiring.
I am not here to say what UL can or cannot do with their money. I hope that UL can acheive the goals they have set for themselves and for all of their athletic programs. Then, they can be a shining beacon to all schools that have to compete for money in this state with the all-encompassing TAF reigning in amounts that border the ridiculous.
Good luck on your hire and best of luck to your future. Thank you for the reply.
I talked with a former college bball coach this week and he said that what the Cajuns need as a head FB coach is a recruiter---Boy do I agree---If we could get Coach "O" we would get the best def. line coach and maybe the best recruiter in the country----Has head SEC experience----asst on a Nat'l Champion----pro experience and IS A CAJUN---If you think that he was good at USC and Ole Miss think of letting this guy loose in Louisiana----Think of all the JUCO contacts he has through the years-----I can just see him in a house visit---"Yes mam I have been all around the country and have tried to come home to the area and run the show---UL gave me the chance and I am thrilled to be back home!!! If your son comes to Louisiana he will fit is perfectly etc. etc. etc.------We will let your son's lil bro. lead the team out before our opening game----see Blinsided!!!!!
Thanks for the great response. I would vote in a heartbeat to get a coach with a super reputation and name in the business, with ties to our area, in order to immediately snag some key recruits and some fan excitement and support. Recruiting is king. If our money and system can get that guy, I can't wait to hear who he is.
If it's a plug that made his "name" by hanging around large programs and great athletes, I have serious doubts about getting a wave of substantially better talent to overcome an average head coach.
I take it that in your recruiting view a guy whose reputation was built by success at a lower division of football will not get the attention of better recruits.
I completely agree.
I am not sure you guys understand what happened at Ole Miss. Orgeron was an outcast in Oxford from week 1. He did not play ball with the wealthy power wielding alumns, would not let them call the shots, and they began preparing to oust him before he even got moved into his house, these are facts.
Joey Jones (USA Jaguars) has one of the most impressive records as a head coach in all of college football right now, he is a local Alabamian, a household name in Mobile from his years playing for Auburn, and an enthusiastic leader.
Coach O has many of the same attributes which may just translate into similar success.
Maybe we should cut the guy loose in Louisiana and see.
Well, besides having a reputation of a great recruiter, which didn't seem to work at Ole Miss, he hasn't shown to be that great a coach. Also, when I listened to him on the radio, I didn't get a very good impression of him. He's not the kind of coach I'd like to see take over our program. Yes, he had good def. lines in college but when he was the Saints D-line coach, they showed no improvement, and may have gotten worse than the year before.
I just gotta ask, what sort of "impression" do you get from this guy?

I am telling you straight up, if you are in a room or on the field with him, he is intense as hell, demanding, competetive, and in freaking motion; but yes, Coach Orgeron does have a CAJUN accent.
