Thread: 2010 Football Coaching Candidates

Just read this in another article about Sunbelt openings (particularly North Texas).

One thing to consider: Sun Belt programs have not served as good stepping-stone jobs for up-and-coming coaches.
Ouch, that's got to be a deterrent for finding an upward-looking coach.

We can't afford Crowton. He's still a hot prospect in the BCS, regardless of how LSU fans talk about him. They cut everyone down. I'm not really sure how much of what people see is Crowton and how much is Miles, offensively.

If it were possible, he would recruit well and give us some "named coach" recognition. But, Crowton isn't the type I see at UL right now. I'm concerned about guys that come in and just operate the show like they're capable of playing head to head with everyone and come out on top. UL's current personnel would have failed miserably at the offense LSU ran this year. LSU almost did.

UL needs all the basic fundamentals good experienced coaches bring... but to rocket over the hump... we have to play up to the edge of "wreckless" on both sides of the ball IMO. I don't see BCS coordinators being humble enough to know they need to play high risk fast paced football at UL.

Just some more speculation I am reading. I know some on this board can't stand Orgeron but...

Louisiana: Our sources tell us that certain UL coaches are expecting to be out of job following the season. The Ragin Cajuns are 2-8. We are getting conflicting reports whether UL will go after USC assistant Ed Orgeron, if a change is made with Rickey Bustle. One source tells us UL would be willing to pay Orgeron in the $425,000 range. Another source tells us Orgeron would not consider leaving USC for the position if approached by UL.
I am leaning towards he won't accept the position. He has it pretty good at USC, I would think.

A good thing about this article, they called us Louisiana.

Hudspeth is making $190K at Miss St. I think he would come for $400K.

Dana Holgorson might not since he is making $260K at Ok State.

It isn't just that the SBC doesn't make coaches attractive, they generally don't hire attractive coaches for upward mobility. UL needs to get off that road and produce a coach we can't hang onto because he's just too successful with us. I call that a "luxurious problem".

This wil be a perception changing hire.

For the first time in school history UL will hire a "Head Coach."

I hope UL does not go for a name coach just for the sake of going after a "name coach."

If he happens to be a name coach fine, but he must be a BIG winner at his last stop and very successful in his last stint as a head coach.

The big thing that wories me is David Walker likes to get stuck on stupid when it comes to hiring UL Alumni. Hiring alumni is fine IF they are qualified (head coach) but David Walker seems to treat it as a qualification.

Don't assume anything my man and don't believe everything you read. Any coach that contacts a university either directly or indirectly through a second party has some interest in the position. For all those that think Coaches are just concerned about salary, might want to consider the areas of future commitments in facilities and scheduling. All are important in considering this job. I can tell you this, there are some people interested in this head coaching position that would surprise the hell out of many. But that doesn't mean they would agree with the facility commitments and future scheduling to accept the position.

I would love. To have Mike Shula, Tyrone Willingham, Mike Leach & Sly Croon. Ty Willingham & Leach would be my top choice. What do you think

The numbers I used was his 2010 contract, but you are correct. It was recently reworked for to a 3 year deal for $360K matching Joe Deforest as the highest paid assistant on the OSU staff.

    I respectfully disagree.
