If he can get the lucky rabbits foot Miles has crammed up his starfish, then I am all for him becoming the next head coach here.

    LOL...

Personally, I'd prefer a defensive minded coach who allows his offense to be run by his OC and installs a physical presence here but higher profile coaches like Crowton can often bring attention and recruits that may not typically consider us to this program.

    Baldwin :

    Crowton:

There is absolutely no similarity in these two coaches.

Getting Crowton in Cajun Field would be a game changing hire.

Not only would he bring an almost incomparable offensive mind here, but I am certain he would find a young O.C. whom he would groom in his image to take over when he retires.

People, I don't know if we could get a better coach to come to UL than Gary Crowton.

My biggest problem with the whole thing is his ties. Coached at La Tech, coached at LSU. Sorry to be a fuddy duddy but I don't want anything to do with those two programs. Just sayin....

Nelson Stokeley played at LSU, and is still considered the best coach we've ever had.

I can assure you, Crowton is no Tech or LSU diehard. With his knowledge of offensive football, proven track record of QB development, and NFL credentials, he would attract the best QB recruits we've ever had along with aspiring young coaches to learn from a known guru of offensive football.

Like I said before, this is a game changing hire....if it were to ever happen.

I'm not a supporter of Crowton, but ties have nothing to do with it. He's not Jerry Baldwin, he has been a HC at FBS programs, coached in multiple bowl games and coached in the pros. He meets all criteria for a head coach and we could do far worse in my opinion. Again, he's not my choice, but let's not dismiss qualified candidates because they have coached at at certain program.

I don’t see the infatuation with Crowton. While he has had a little success his overall record is not too good ( 47 – 36, 56.6%) and he has a pattern of starting well and tanking rapidly. In his 3 years at Tech he was 21-13 with one very good 9-2 year sandwiched between two mediocre years of 6-5 and 6-6. At BYU he went 12-2 (7-0 conference) with talent he inherited but then went 5-7 (2-5), 4-8 (3-4) and 5-6 (4-3) to finish his BYU career 26 – 23 (16 – 12). That’s two good years out of seven. Take away the stats from the two good years and he is 26 – 32 (44.8%). Also, he has established that pattern of one good year and then tanking. Check out this article written by a BYU fan in 2007 when Crowton was first hired by LSU. It is a short article but a pretty good read. It details his history at BYU and as OC at Oregon. Pay attention to his description of Crowton’s shortcomings at those schools regarding QBs. Compare that to the current complainst by LSU fans and the author could be mistaken for Nostradamus.

Overall Crowton is not a whole lot better than Coach Bustle, IMO. And I don't think he has as great of a reputation of developing QBs as you think. The vibe from both the author of that piece and coworkers who are levelheaded State fans is that he does not do a good job of developing QBs.

Crowton would be a good hire maybe not the one I would like but a good hire. We mention coaches that we could afford. He is making over 400,000 at LSU so not sure what we plan on paying but it would not be that much of a raise for him if any.

It would have to be a situation like what the LSU coordinators did a few years back.

They "voluntarily" left for lower paying jobs.

Meaning they would have gotten fired. Perhaps if LSU goes on a losing skid Crowton would be the sacrificial lamb.

If we can afford Crowton, we can afford the OC at Boise, Hudspeth, or better. I'm with Hammer, I don't see the love fest with the guy..

Everything I've read has said our next coach will be paid in the $400K range and with the budget cuts we face, I can't see how it could be any more than that. We aren't getting a Crowton or a Hudspeth for $400K.

Crowton? I really hope not. I don't know about his past coaching resume but LSU fans seem to really hate him and from the games i've seen them play he looks kind of bad. Does he have any head coaching experience in FBS? and if so, how did he do?
