Thread: Bustle says Cajuns won’t go quietly

  1. Default Bustle says Cajuns won’t go quietly

LAFAYETTE — Rickey Bustle doesn’t know what the future holds for him at the University of Louisiana at now that the Ragin’ Cajuns football team no longer has a chance of becoming bowl eligible or finishing with at least a .500 season. But ...

  2. Default Injuries crippling UL down stretch

Back in July, Rickey Bustle believed in UL's potential so much that he was the only coach in the Sun Belt Conference to vote for the Ragin' Cajuns to win the conference title. UL lost its fifth straight game last week in a 43-21 loss at Ole Miss.

Update: QB Brad McGuire met with doctors Tuesday. Will undergo season-ending surgery Wednesday for a torn ligament in thumb on throwing hand, according to a source close to the situation. That means sophomore Blaine Gautier will make his first collegiate start Saturday at Florida Atlantic.

Sorry to see McGuire's season end like this. He is a gutsy competitor, with a great attitude.

I don't understand this quote. What "bigger" schools in the SBC is he talking about that have more depth? He makes it sound like we are one of the smaller, lesser schools in the SBC. Does the size of the school necessarily dictate the amount of depth you have?

And, he is already building his case to return next year due to the woeful number of injuries we had. Injuries don't explain the killing we received from a weak Georgia team where we were totally unprepared to play, or the shellacking we got at home vs. MT with 2 weeks to prepare and MT's QB and 3 starting O Linemen were out, or the pasting we got from WKU who put 54 on us, yet only 6 vs. a UNT team that has as many if not more injuries than we did, or the bonehead calls that cost us games vs. Troy and Ohio, or our failure to score in the second half of any game or make any mid-game adjustments.

All I can say is this coach and staff had better not be retained another year. Football will be all but dead if that happens - no attendance, no revenue, no support.

Injuries weren't an excuse for North Texas and they won't be an excuse for us.

I think he's earned the right to play out the season. But that's about it.

And when a long time Bustle supporter (some may say "apologist") feels that way, you know the end is near.

It doesn't matter who you bring in for the last 3 games, we are too injured for that to make any bit of difference.

Whenever I hear a coach say that, I believe the point being made is compared to schools from the power conferences (SEC, Big 12, Big Ten).

He's talking about the SBC in general not having the depth like bigger conference schools have.

I agree. That really is the difference between most of the SBC schools and the BCS schools. The fall off from their third stringer isn't that significant from the starters.

Next head coach needs to be a recruiter first, middle, & last. Leave the X's & O's to the coordinators.

Understood, but we should have the depth to compete with SBC schools are we are barely able to do that.
