NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal is announcing millions of dollars worth of commitments from BP to help the state recover from the Gulf oil spill and protect the eroding coast.
The governor, at a news conference Monday, said BP has agreed to pay $48 million for Louisiana seafood safety and promotion programs and $30 million for tourism promotion. Also, the governor said that $100 million BP previously committed to the state will be used to convert sand berms that were built to block oil into barrier islands.
