Tough decisions for Robe

Going from 44 players to 35 players is going to a tough decision for coach Robe, this was one of the most talented fall ball rosters in a few years. There's going to be some talent leaving for Juco, or out of baseball completely. We have to be down to 35 including red shirts if I'm not mistaken.

When is the last time you heard him say that his biggest concern was pitching depth? Seemed very confident in our bats, speed, and defense.

The Freshman along with the juco's looked very good. The Petello kid from UNO is a steal, a good all around player. I realize it's November but our 2011 team should be fun to watch. Congrts to the coaches for bringing in such good talent that will mix (and push for playing time) with our older players. Also next years recruiting class should be signing there binding letters in a couple of weeks.

I think there may actually be 45 on the roster. I know that freshman Jacques de Gruy sat out the fall, and I think will definitely be on the spring roster. He was a New Orleans Katrina transplant to the Dallas area, and was originally committed to Tulane. I've included an article which gives some history.

Tulane commitment Jacques de Gruy, 6-foot4 right-handed pitcher from Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, withdrew his pledge recently, according to his family. de Gruy played for Northlake Christian School in Covington earlier in his career. Through his family, de Gruy issued this statement:

"My original decision to attend Tulane was due to my longstanding relationships with Coach Sutter and Coach Cressend as well as its academics. However, since Coach Cressend has left for Houston, I have decided to de-commit from Tulane. Coach Sutter has been very understanding and reasonable during this very difficult process and he has given me my full, unrestricted release. I wish Coach Sutter, my signing class, as well as the existing players all the success."

RHP, Jesuit HS, Dallas - 4-21 from: - link - De Gruy has one of the most intriguing backgrounds in the 2010 draft, as he's one of thousands of Hurricane Katrina refugees that fled to Texas in the aftermath of the storm. A former New Orleans resident, he's settled quite well into the Dallas area, though he's committed to a school back in New Orleans in Tulane. De Gruy makes this list simply because there's room for him to grow. A two-way prospect in high school, scouts and the Tulane coaching staff have zeroed in on him purely as a pitcher, as he's really developed in that regard over the last 12 months. He has a fastball that sits 86-88, touching as high as 91, and he pairs it with a potentially plus curveball. He has a long way to go to learn the craft of pitching, and he's very inconsistent with his delivery at this point, leading to a number of curveballs that flatten out and fastballs that stay out over the plate. However, the potential is there for De Gruy to start filling out his projectable frame, and he's a great student that is capable of learning from good coaching. He's more of a name to watch for the 2013 draft, but he's also getting looks this spring. Projected Draft Range: 10th Round - Undrafted

Jesuit senior pitcher Jacques de Gruy said Monday that he has orally committed to Tulane, choosing the Green Wave over Ole Miss, TCU, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.

De Gruy (6-4, 195) said he is being recruited as a pitcher and that his fastball touched 91 mph this summer while playing for the premiere 17-U DBAT Mustangs team. He will be given the opportunity to compete as a two-way player at Tulane. De Gruy was Jesuit's offensive MVP last season, an all-district selection and participated in this summer's prestigious MLB Area Code Tryouts as well as the Texas Scouts Association Showcase held at Texas Rangers ballpark.

Oral commitments are non-binding. The first day a baseball player in the class of 2010 can sign a national letter of intent is Nov. 1.

And by all accounts, the class of 2011 recruiting class could be even more stacked than the one that is just arriving. That is the class with the pitching depth. There's some serious talent in these 2 recruiting classes.

I predict better pitching than hitting again...now if only we could prove it with numbers at the end of the season

No really though. We have a lot of depth this season on the mound. We've got several returners with great experience and I think we have a few great arms with very little experience. Just a matter of time until they are proven. Of course replacing Zach will be tough, but we have some kids with some electric stuff.
