Thread: Brett Baer SBC Special Teams Player of the Week

  1. Default Brett Baer SBC Special Teams Player of the Week

Cajuns kicker Brett Baer turned in a special performance on Saturday at Ohio...

In addition to his field goal and four extra points, Baer executed two perfectly placed onsides kicks...

UL recovered both onside kicks in the game, one on the opening kickoff of the season half (recovered by Baer himself) and the other with 1:36 remaining in the game.

How anyone associated with the Cajuns kickoff coverage team could win an award is beyond me.

When you consider where UL ended up after the onside kicks he could go 0-for-2 on his next two and still have a better average than the sky kicks have produced.

At least with onside kicks, Baer doesn't have to make all the tackles.

No but he is 50/50 on recovering the ball. What other position do you think Baer can play?

Safety. He has 4 tackles on the year. All were made on returners running full speed at him. He breaks down, wraps up, and takes them down.

So what you're saying is he should be coaching tackling to the other players.

2 for 2 on on-sides kicks, 4 interceptions, a half time lead, and we still lose. Almost the same thing at Troy. 54 points given up to WKU and N. Texas holds them to 6. 2 weeks to prepare for MT without their starting QB and 3 O linemen and we get pummeled at home. Every 2nd half has been a disaster. These kids are playing their hearts out and are being killed by their own coaches. Stop the carnage.

Longest return of the day by Ohio was 34 yards.

    On a sky kick.

Ohio scored a TD on every 2nd half possession they had and they never punted in the entire game. That is why the Cajuns lost. This is somewhat due to the injuries on defense. Other reasons probably include some guys being out of position and perhaps the calls. I still say we should rush three and drop eight on passing downs. We blitz quite often and still don't put pressure on the QB. If you can't get pressure with the blitz, that makes it easy for the QB as receivers will be open. Let's cover more if we can't get to the QB no matter how many we send.

  12. Default Baer Grabs Sun Belt Honor

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns sophomore kicker Brett Baer was named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Baer turned in a special performance on Saturday at Ohio. In addition to his field goal and four extra points, Baer executed two perfectly placed onsides kicks. UL recovered both onside kicks in the game, one on the opening kickoff of the second half (recovered by Baer himself) and the other with 1:36 remaining in the game.

The Sun Belt Player of the Week honor is the fourth of the season for UL players.

In addition, tight end Ladarius Green earned honorable mention honors by www.CollegeFootballPerformance.com for National Tight End of the Week.
