Louisiana 0, Jacksonville 0 (tie)
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Sunday’s match between Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team and Jacksonville University needed 110 minutes, but the result still yielded a 0-0 tie here on the final day of the FAU/Double Tree Kickoff Classic.

UL (0-1-1) and Jacksonville (0-1-1) have not scored in the first 200 minutes of the 2004 season. The Cajuns were shut out 3-0 by Florida Atlantic Friday night, while the Dolphins lost by the same count to Northeastern.

Twenty-one Cajuns saw action Sunday afternoon, 11 of those freshmen.

The Cajuns recorded four shots on goal.

#12 Florida 4, Florida International 1
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After battling to a 1-1 tie in the first half, No. 12 Florida scored three goals in the second half within an eight-minute span en route to a 4-1 victory over the FIU women’s soccer team.

UF’s Stephanie Freeman broke a 1-1 tie in the 69th minute, and Nikila Walker extended the margin to 3-1 less then three minutes later. Freeman added an insurance goal with less than 15 minutes to play.

FIU’s goal was scored by Janet Ligouri, who was assisted by Chanelle Crosby.

For the match, Florida outshot the Golden Panthers 18-2 with Ligouri and Crosby recording the lone shots for FIU. Golden Panther goalkeepers Madeline Gannon and Carly Agro combined for five saves.

Centenary 3, Arkansas State 0
SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s soccer team won their season opener 3-0, shutting out visiting Arkansas State Sunday afternoon.

The Ladies were aggressive early, scoring almost immediately. Freshman forward Tara Sageser made a strong impression in her first collegiate match, scoring her first career goal, in the second minute. She led all players with six shots and three points on the day.

Senior Mindi Levinski gave Centenary an insurance goal in the 55th minute. Rebecca Swilley added the final tally 10 minutes later

CC goalkepper Lindsey Stafford led the defense with 10 saves and posted her first shutout of the season.

Denver 2, Idaho 0
MISSOULA, Mont. - The University of Denver women's soccer team evened its record with a 2-0 win over Idaho Sunday at the Montana Nike Cup.

All-Sun Belt preseason standout Maggie Kirchhofff scored two goals, while goalkeeper Danielle Wiley picked up her first shutout of ’04, as the Pioneers improved to 1-1 on the early season.

Wiley made two saves in a match that saw just five shots on goal. Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year Lleane Grimditch had three shots, including two on goal. Lindsay Smith took the loss for UI (0-2).

North Texas 5, Houston 1
DENTON, Texas – The North Texas (1-0) women’s soccer team started the 2004 season off in style with a 5-1 win over the Houston Cougars (0-2) at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.

The Mean Green has now won 14 straight games at home spanning three seasons along with winning their third straight season opener.

North Texas struck early as senior defender Caree Ridenour scored only the second goal of her career at the 2:41 mark of the first half. Heather Hutyra scored at the 34th minute to make it 2-0, and NT took advantage of an own goal at the 41st minute to take a 3-0 lead at the half.

Senior Alyssa Carrier and Misty Cordon added the NT second-half scores. North Texas out-shot the Cougars 13-10 and junior goalkeeper Briana Buchanan made four saves to pick up the win.

Mississippi 4, Middle Tennessee 1
OXFORD, Miss. – Middle Tennessee's soccer team is still searching for its first win of the 2004 season after dropping a 4-1 decision at Ole Miss on Sunday.

The Rebels (2-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game and increased the advantage to 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining until halftime.

Middle Tennessee staged a rally and cut the deficit in half early in the second period when senior newcomer Debs Brereton scored her first Blue Raider goal 13 minutes into period.

However, the Rebels scored two more goals to seal the win. Ole Miss tallied 23 shots.

Southern Miss 7, UALR 2
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — UALR fell behind 4-0 in the first half and couldn't recover, as the Trojans fell to Southern Mississippi, 7-2, in a women's soccer match Sunday afternoon at Burns Park.

The Golden Eagles (2-0) scored the game’s first five goals and got a hat trick from Lauren Prewitt to spoil the UALR (1-1) home-opener.

Maura Cullen and Dee Dee Beyhan scored the Trojan goals.

Western Kentucky 5, Morehead State 0
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Five different Lady Toppers scored as the Western Kentucky University women's soccer team put up four goals in the second half for a 5-0 shutout of Morehead State on Sunday.

Jocelyn Roach got the Lady Toppers (2-0) on the board at the 14th minute, as WKU never looked back. WKU scored four second-half goals, including tallies from Ceci Shell, * Dalby, Jenna Silverberg and Betsy Duncan.

The Lady Toppers outshot Morehead State 20-3 in the match, and put 13 shots on goal against Eagle goalkeepers.

Western is off to its first 2-0 start since that inaugural 2001 season when it won its first four contests. In two matches so far this season, WKU has been able to hold its opponent scoreless, and also hold the opposition without a shot in the second half of play.
