Thread: Oregon Strength & Conditioning (Transitional Agility) Bullets Over Bowling Balls

  1. Training Oregon Strength & Conditioning (Transitional Agility) Bullets Over Bowling Balls

I was just reading a headline about how Oregon's dizzying offense and superb conditioning tired out the Trojans and how Oregon had only given up one TD in the fourth quarter all year so I did some research on Oregon's Strength and Conditioning program. It is a little unorthodox to say the least.

Seems like speed, agility and stamina beat strength alone, especially through four quarters.

"I think our two weeks of conditioning paid off," said coach Lane Kiffin, whose team had a week off to prepare. "It sounds weird because we got blown out ... I've really seen a difference in two weeks, so I can only imagine the effect [conditioning] has had for Oregon in two years."

This is the Ducks Week 8 Depth Chart for the OL.

A completely different concept at Oregon, athletic ability over the usual buffet ballet, but this ill conceived concept will never work :-)

Interesting. Their O Linemen are not that big by today's standards, especially at BCS schools. Look to be about the size of UL's.

I think we are a few cheeseburgers heavier across the line...

Would love to see what something similar to Oregon's training regimen would do for our guys...if from no other perspective, what affect it might have on injuries...

Athletes in better shape. Might be the answer. Don't we have a new S&C coach?

    Another question one might ask,
How many of the Cajun's O-Linemen were recruited by schools like Oregon?

Can you just plug and play any type of athlete into a strength and conditioning program like Oregon's? They probably take better athletes/ more developed kids and tweak them to their liking.

One of their guys who is 6'4" 285 probably looks different as an 18 yr old than one of UL's linemen of the same age and stature.

Well since they have zero players from Louisiana, Arkansas or Mississippi I would say that is a non factor.

They are loaded with Texas players though.

Oh I see I don't know of any other schools like Oregon.

I don't know of any other top-25 teams going after linemen who are say less than huge.

not sure where you are going with this. they have a starting tackle that is 6'7" 322, and a center that is 6'5" 300. Some of these press guide weights can also be a shot in the dark.

Actually one of our lineman was recruited by Oregon and Oregon State.
