Thread: UL picked fourth

  1. Default UL picked fourth

First-year UL men's basketball coach Bob Marlin has talked repeatedly about how much work will be needed to turn around a program that hasn't had a winning season since 2005.

That became even more obvious Tuesday as the Ragin' Cajuns were picked fourth in the Sun Belt Conference's West Division in the preseason coaches poll released as part of Basketball Media Days.

What is missing is the repurcussions if a school does not meet the "150" rule. Perhaps a school missing it does not get all the NCAA money. Also, I don't see how teams will meet the minimum no. of home games rule while meeting the 150 rule and not be being allowed to play any non D1 games.

The new set of standards, set to begin with the 2011-12 season, is "The 150 Rule." The expectation there is that Sun Belt schools will compete with the top half of NCAA Division I teams in one of two ways: if the three-year average RPI of its non-conference opponents is no greater than 150 or by finishing with an institutional RPI of 150 or better

That's the best I could explain it. Waters has not stated what the penalties would be for not following the new standards. The no non-Division I games is ridiculous. The idea definitely has its flaws. None of the West Division coaches had anything good to say about new standards, especially Arkansas State coach John Brady.

FYI, here is some light reading for you on the subject: http://www.sunbeltsports.org/ViewArt...DB_OEM_ID=4100

I read where A State coach, John Brady, was upset with the SBC office for releasing this at the same time as the Basketball Media Days taking away from each team. Was curious as to the timing of this by Waters. Any thoughts?
