Thread: Injuries plague UL's defense

  1. Default Injuries plague UL's defense

UL's football team, especially on defense, hopes to heal up before Saturday's game at Ohio.

the Cajuns played without four defensive starters in linebacker Grant Fleming (hamstring), nose guard Jordan Topp (ankle), defensive end Terrell Richardson (ankle) and free safety Maurice Rolle Jr. (broken leg). Two other key reserves were out in defensive ...

Was a redshirt pulled on Ben Duhon "who had never played in a collegiate game" and "got 43 snaps last week." Or did the coaches do a poor job of at least getting him some face time on the field before Saturday?

I mean if he was being redshirted that is one thing, but it seems to me if not, the coaches should have seen this possiblity coming and had him prepared a little better for the roll he ended up filling.

Duhon is a redshirt sophomore. Redshirted as a freshman in 2008. Gets reps every week during practice. Tough to simulate a game in practice, though.

Any idea why we recruited so many small DTs? These 4 make up 1/2 of our DTs. The other half are 1A size DTs, but not these guys.

    Ben Duhon - 5/11" 280 lbs. (So.)
    Barry Sterling - 6'0" 237 lbs. (So.)
    Derrek Dean - 5'11" 280 lbs. (Jr.)
    Sharrick Moore - 6'2" 250 lbs. (Sr.)

    Brandon McCray - 6'4" 287 (Fr.)
    Jermaine Rogers - 6'5" 287 lbs. (Sr.)
    Benay Pryer - 6'6" 290 lbs. (Jr.)
    Jordan Topp - 6'4" 307 lbs. (Sr.)
    Darrel Green-Wallace - 6'2" 275 lbs. (Fr.)

We lose 3 players as seniors, doesn't appear to leave much in the cubbard. And, with injuries, look at what we are having to replace them with. Despite all the injures, Benay Pryer still isn't playing. Just how much of a project is he if we are playing smallish size tackles like Sharrick Moore and Ben Duhon in front of him? And now, we are playing a 235 lb. DE at DT in Bernard Smith. Any wonder we can't control the defensive line of scrimmage?

wow in the first group (undersized guys), the guys either have good height but not good weight or decent weight but small in height. lol.

Pryer has been working with the scout team. Not ready yet to contribute.

He will be a senior next year or can he redshirt this year? When you are his size and get beat out by some of these high school size linemen we are forced to use, it doesn't say much for a guy that (I believe) originally signed with LSU and had so much promise. If he has only 1 year remaining, is he expected to contribute next year?

Originally committed to LSU. Didn't qualify. Placed at JC. Very raw. Redshirted as fr in 08. Played juco as sophomore. Will still have two years left after this season. Will have more on him in my Wednesday practice report.
